Wiley family is famous in Kentucky, about half way between Nova Scotia and Land of PAR. Mild climate with lots of boat-able/potable water would be a great location for PD to relocate and set up machine shop. Could machine parts for coal industry in Pikeville if Nobama wasn't trying to bankrupt them.

Post pictures of the CPP gear, please. My Sabb CPP is still soaking in a kerosene bath, barnacles and similar marine fouling organisms are incredibly tenacious. I see a wire wheel in the near future, when I have the time.

Funny, one of my friends recently bought a house about 5 minutes drive from my place. He owns 2 boats and is a regular visitor. I expect to be doing the machining for his new propulsion setup and rudder in the near future. I'd love to trade wood work for metal work, I have a fair amount of woodworking tools but I just prefer metal. Yesterday I was milling the castings for new straight edges, a 5" diameter TCT face mill running at 150 rpm with a .100" depth of cut and 0.003" cut per tooth makes a big mess fast.....

As for moving, well, no. It'd take 2 40' containers to pack all the tooling and probably another 20' container to hold all the books.

Back to boats, my big 22" Autostream prop fouled on the rudder cutout I'd sized for a 21" fixed prop. The blades, fully feathered, hit the bottom of the cutout. Half a day with angle grinder, plasma cutter, welder and finish grinding (plus touchup paint) and it's fixed. Permanently. I can now reinstall the prop shaft and make the stern bushing out of the chunk of Vesconite sitting next to the lathe. After that, on to the exhaust system and engine controls.

It is time to batten down the hatches and make the poles bare. Storm's a coming.

 

We had a typical hurricane day, without the rain or wind. It sure looked like a hurricane was coming, but nothing. I'm worried about folks in the Carolinas and further up to Jersey. The hurricane will bend off to the east, but the storm surge and high tides will make low lying areas moist.

 

Here's hoping it runs way off shore.

 

My latest tracks show not much to worry about, in regard to the tropical mess marching up the coast, but the combination of this and the low that's remained parked on the lower east coast will (is) cause a lot of rain in the Carolina's and mid Atlantic.

 

Not a good time to be in the Gulf Stream running east . Latest forecast is for it to track North East of our location. We're taking the boats and floats in tomorrow just in case. Getting that time of year anyhow. The trees haven't turned here yet but these past few days fall is awakening. Soon be time to tune up the snow shovels.

 

I was thinking the same thing George, as I was mowing the lawn today, I realized I only have a two more months to worry about, before I can park it, for the season.

In all seriousness, The last week has me looking forward to some nice weather projects. I have to put a new A/C unit in Clyde's house and repair some of his ducts. Attic work in my area requires lower temperatures. I got to re-roof our house too (145 three tab bundles!), so another winter project, that can't be done any other time but the few months of winter down here.

 

Don't feel too bad. We discovered a short in our house wiring last night and with it being aluminum have decided to totally re-wire the entire structure with copper. This means moving out everything we just moved in.

Paul re the lawn mowing, you have two more whole months , I got you beat I only have two more weeks. Re the roofing, I installed 85, 3 tab bundles way back in June, with no weather hold ups ,beat ya again. . Also if you recall past seasons this is the time of year that on occasion the temperature here is actually warmer than in Florida. Not often but enough to trigger bragging rights So take comfort while mowing i'll be thinking of you while seated next to my cozy wood fire sipping a toddy --Here's to the Great White North --( Now if I could only remember where I packed my snowshoes)

 

Hoyt, Nasty situation those bi metal connections with aluminum wiring. Especially in your warm salt air environment . Best to bite the bullet and get it gone.
