There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year-old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

A bit long to quote, but she sure has a point... Monica Lewinsky: The price of shame . .

‘‘ Public shaming as a blood sport has to stop . . . Today, the kind of online public shaming has become constant - and can turn deadly . . . ’’

Subtitles (and Transcript with pointer) available in many languages, so it can be followed by everyone and this also makes it a 22 min. course in English for those who are not fluent in it, like me.

    Thank You Monica [IMG]

P.S. - For me 22 minutes worth to watch and listen.
From 4:14 in the video: - ‘‘cruel jokes’’ - I was one of those who made them and I'm ashamed of it . . :(

Most important is to learn from it . .

Right Hoyt [IMG], there are some good words in the Bible.

I see you have a King James Bible and quote Matthew who quoted Jesus there, Mark adds to that quote ‘‘ There is none other commandment greater than these ’’

Once Jesus had to deal with a case similar to Bill & Monica when a woman who was caught in the very act of committing adultery was brought to Him of which they wanted to hear from Him that she had to be stoned, and He wrote with his finger on the ground about it. And then Jesus said to them who brought her ‘‘ Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her ’’ Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one . . .

My observation hereby is that there are at least two people involved when committing adultery, but only one was above discussed.

In this respect not much has changed in the past 2000 years, the one that should have showed the greatest responsibility only has a scratch on his reputation as a former president of a big country, and the young woman who gave in to an infatuation was hardest hit.

As much as i agree with Angelique's last sentence, this is supposed to be about "all-things-boats-and-boating".

It was very interesting that the Bill and Monica circus was going on that I was living in Japan. The consistent response from a large international community was:
    1. Who cares what they did with their personal life?
    2. Isn't she an adult?
    3. Why are you (Americans) so obsessed with personal choices made by them, no one got killed did they?

I have to agree with them, and with Monica's statement about shaming.

Sorry I couldn't help my self.

No problem, you made some good points, I'll stop here. I think we should give Hoyt the right of the last word about it, if he wants to, since I responded to him.

It was just a comment - about boats - not intended as a rant.
Since I commented about the saying, I can't/shouldn't be someone with a stone.

We all need to show more forgiveness and less covetousness for the sake of our own souls. I therefore agree.

    Touron: the intelligence-challenged on tour

(I had to use "intelligence-challenged" in place of *****, which runs afoul of the profanity blocker)

... came across this one just today. :)
