With this kind of comments you drag yourself down, it's better to improve yourself on this point . .

Sven builds a boat and gives us an report of it, the internet age makes that possible. I am grateful to Sven for his efforts to inform us about his activities. According to my interpretation it's not about pissing . . :idea:

the "set of rules" of the AIT was not a 500 page book but merely a few phrases of which the most "important" was: loa should be 10 ft or smaller ,or something in that regard.
That's not rocketscience and doesn't need an indept study to comprehend.
I'm almost certain that Sven understood this very well but he tried to get his way around that. Nothing wrong with trying to be inventive I guess as long as you're aware that your "creativity" will be "examined" by others especially if your project involves so many daring exploits. It's not nothing what Sven proposed to do right there in the Southern emisphere with a 10 ft nutshell.
At the age of 70+ you must be a solid block of rockhard steel to even start such a project so hats of to that, but if you're gambling with the rules you must accept that sometimes the bank is the winner and not the cards you hold in your hand.
Sven started a word game with "smaller vs bigger" on purpose because LOA was set in the rules of the AIT, loud and clear.

Time to close this little debate and move on to what Sven has to offer us in the future.

 

I suggest a new rating formula:
find a ship cargo that will circumnavigate the planet, charge the ten, connect the ship transponder to your site...then write a book 'around with ten'.

I am also following Sven, and am pleased to see that he has embarked on a project which is more practical. I think displaced volume as criterion isn't perfect, but it is as simple, and better than length. I look forward to seeing some of his innovations and design solutions with this new project. I have an Yngling, and hope to incorporate some of his ideas for coastal cruising. It is fun to think about how an Yngling could be modified for safe solo crossings, perhaps a gunter rig, more compartments, etc. I do like the idea of being able to get out and sail it more conventionally on fair sailing days, but also being able to hunker down and survive what I might call Yrvind days.

 

I have deliberately stayed out of this discussion related to size because it's the old story that the coin has two sides to consider. But this new boat of Sven's is really very very small - 1m wide with 0.7m headroom is TIGHT. I think the design concept is very good, nothing wrong with a long skinny boat BUT why sooooo small. I still feel that he should have finished the "ten" and used that for cruising rather than starting over again. The "ten" would have been very comfortable compared to "Ex Lex"

I always like what Sven does and I really wish him well just sad to see him give up on the Yrvind Ten.

Anyway this ten of mine is sure going to teach everybody (including myself) a thing or two about very small displacement boats, and don't worry I have many sleepless nights and butterflies in the stomach. It certainly is nerve racking

 

I will be following also your Ten very closely Manie B. What I thought very interesting of Sven's Ten project was when he was speaking of how it should just maintain and fight to weather in a storm as an alternative to heaving to or using a sea anchor which loses hard fought ground. This is where he talked about his slotted leeboards, to provide maximum lift at low speeds. Very interesting stuff. I think it still applies with his new project. It might also have some application in unmanned sailing drones. I am sure he won't just throw away the Ten. It is just on hold, or left to others, such as yourself. At his age I cannot blame him for working on or sailing wherever his mind takes him, world be damned. I also like his approach to success and failure. Mistakes are not something to be avoided. They are not just inevitable, they are essential to learning and discovery. I am going to go read up on your thread now. Cheers.

Is very funny his spoon-fork of April 1, and hilarious his mathematical theories.
