Shame, I hear the Mk 111 has a Cappuccino function, Trouser press and Bagel Toaster.

(Of course with a 40% duty cycle, only the left hand 2 fifths the bagel will be toasted)

Even things we used to think were quality aussie made have the made in china label now. I went to buy a meat pie last week and the info on the bag said made in australia from local and imported ingredients. How sad is it when our pie makers are importing ingredients. I check All the labels since the berry scare.

 

Was at a mates shed yesterday welding up the tiller head for my yacht, across the road is a great Aussie business that makes tubular beds out of Aus steel & aus pine, just starting to import under competitive pricing pressure apparently.....
seems weird/dumb to be exporting iron ore "cheap" at the high cost of local jobs..

PS... quick edit, it just occured to me that the wire feeder I was using yesterday came from here.... http://www.autoweld.com.au/ Australian made, not sure on all the parts though, I bought my Cigweld 250 mig from them about 14 years ago also, just down the road

 

I agree. They are giving away iron ore at $48 a ton when we should be value adding here not buying it back 6 months later turned some throw away rubbish. but I guess that is how the world is now. We are as guilty china because we buy the stuff.

I brought a Chinese manufactured 180mp caddy welder that I used for a LNG gas project, very reliable in fact was a lot better to weld with than millers and less complicated but still had the slop on, off and pulse, price was about $1000 compared to the Miller valued at $5000

 

I like your "product placement" on the back of the hard hat, maybe you should do it on your welding bucket too

Well, I didn't mean to jack the thread but now that we are discussing the ultimate nature of reality, I'll add my 2 cents. I'll attach a couple threads wherein I hook up a Miller 30a gun to an Everlast 200 amp little bug-sprayer CV machine. I absolutely love it for what I ask of it and it is the best stick machine with 3/32 that I have. Beautiful arc qualities. The threads get hilarious at times with the back-and-forth between me and the Everlast head tech guy and all the arguments from both sides of China debate. I also have their (Everlast) 200DX tig machine that I really like a lot, awesome on steel and fine on AL. I paid 600 for the MIG and 1100 for the TIG and am extremely happy. Yes, the foot pedal sucks on the TIG machine, so what?

Perhaps you are aware of the thread I have going about the Alaska skiff. The young men who are doing the welding bought a Miller XMT350 with Optima pulse, a XR box and water cooled 30A gun for 11K last year. The power supply completely smoked, as in caught fire literally, three weeks ago and the feeder went oingo-boingo last week hooked up to their spare power supply. They are now caveman (like me) with an old XMT and an old 30A spoolgun. The repair is not going to be quick.

I am seriously thinking of getting the Everlast i-mig 250P and setting it up with a 30A gun off the XR feeder. A non-synergic pulse machine that is 100% @ 160A 22V for $1,699? Hell yas! I do not understand why these China outfits have not aggressively pursued the AL MIG market, it is as if it doesn't exist to them.

I will be back in China this afternoon to start designing and machine smaller multi tools similar to a proto type pictured that is one of many new designs you may like that is suited for the marine market.
I will market on www.kickstarter.com as a launching platform.

 

Brand is kind of irrelevant - the importers get them branded to anything they want.

To head off the usual 'Chinese make crap' diversion, you can get any quality you care to pay for from China. You have a minimal budget, you likely will get poor quality. Pay more from an importer with a reputation, you get good stuff.

I have a Chinese 50A plasma cutter that's cut all the plate for a 12m steel sailboat. Still working. Nowhere near as good as a Thermal Arc but also nowhere near the price. My $1200 MIG welder - 250A at 60% duty cycle - has been a very fine unit and I'd buy another without a second thought if someone stole mine.
