If your engine, flywheel cover and transom plate are there and working , you only need the suspension fork and outdrive to bolt on. Check your primary drive bearings before you put it all back together, as they can fail catastrophically if they are bad. Volvo AQ 270, 275, 280, 285, and some 290's all use the same transom plate, suspension forks, and reverse tilt lock assemblies. The only other issue maybe if your primary drive shaft has a different number of splines, there are 2, fine and coarse, if this is so , swap the ujoint flanges, the ujoints are all the same as well.

But you need to check the drive ratio to be sure it is correct. V8's use 1.64, V6's use 1.81 and I4's use 2.15

The drive unit is the leg. I would pull the engine out to make it easier. And try that flywheel housing to see if it fits the chev. to check the 270 ratio. Mark the Input shaft and prop shaft with a crayon or pen and put it in gear . Slowly turn the input shaft and see how far it travels in relation to the output. there may even be a serial number to tell you. gonzo or skua might know.

If you google volvo penta on ebay you can buy copys of volvo service manuals on cd for a few dolllars . I am sure if you had one your friend will be able to do everything you need.

The drive ratio is stamped on the lower drive to transmission parting surface, very convenient, lol. But IF the data plate is intact, you can run the numbers, and that will tell you, otherwise, counting the rotations is a fairly close, approximation. The pics show he has a SBC and flywheel cover, as well as the transom plate, all mounted up, unless I misunderstood the pics. He doesn't need anything else other than the drive, and suspension fork. If his fork is intact, then he just need to swap the "leg". And I agree a service manual will be invaluable, these drives are old, and not many techs are well versed with new Volvo, let alone 30 year old AQ stuff. The Seloc manual, isn't so good by the way. The Volvo manual is infinitely better.

The flywheel cover in the pic fits a different engine than shown. Possibly a Chrysler judging from the bolt pattern. The flywheel cover fits the engine to the primary drive bearing housing . Except for very rare oddballs, (AQ 270PT, 208 PT) the transom plate , primary drive housing and outdrives are all the same fitment wise.
