Yvan is in the Med now after successfully navigating the red sea and approach from Sri Lanka. I've been following on FB lately as the news trickles out through several different sites and it's tedious to follow them all.

The latest update from Yvan Bourgnon he believes that he will arrive at Ouistreham Riva-Bella on the morning of 23rd of June completing his round the world voyage. I'm not sure about how much suffering most adventurers suffer on their round the world attempts but Yvan's epic must be right up there in the pain and discomfort stakes.

    https://www.facebook.com/yvan.bourgnon?fref=nf

This is a computer translate so expect the usual funnies but on reading not too bad :).

It's official, yvan arrives on 23 June in the morning, Ouistreham Riva-Bella. It should arrive in the morning and wait a little in the channel because the tide schedules are that it will not be able to return his "Louloutte" in the lock before 12 pm. This will be the end of a journey started in October 2013 the sables d ' Olonne. In 220 days of Sea Yvan will have travelled 55 000 km around the globe, traversant three oceans and 13 seas. It will be carried out a couple of steps, during which the small size of its catamaran to often fueled the curiosity, which allowed him to make pretty unknown meetings from spontaneously offer their help in this sailor like no other, on a boat Not like the others... Get out as much as possible of the infrastructure all organized for boaters of passage, and put the most possible implemented the motto of his trip: A catamaran, a beach, a meeting...

But "Do Not Ferlons The Mainsail before the chain is tense" (Maritime Version of the skin of the bear not killed) Because Yvan is still in the sea! As long as the line is not taken, any little happen. It has easily crossed this morning the mer d ' Iroise Case: The Breast Raz First of all a little against the current, and then the dreaded channel of the oven, passing between the archipelagos of Mullein And Ushant on the one hand and the Pointe Du Finistère. The Mer D ' Iroise Case Separates The Atlantic Ocean of the English channel, which she draws the characteristics: The waters vives. The English channel to its entry does not measure "that" 100 miles (180 km) wide, on the scale of the planet, it is a small stream... Whose width will gradually be reduced to measure more than 60 miles between cherbourg and the Isle of Wight.

With the very low average depth (less than 100 m in the middle) and the particular form of the cotentin, all of this makes the very singular place for sailors: At some points, there has been the most strong currents of Europe with more than 12 Knots Registered En Pointe. There are also the third place of the tides the highest in the world... Navigation conditions very specific who play a lot about the state of the sea, but also on the roads of navigation. This is the place where all boats, from the smallest to the largest, "walk in crab" (when the height of the current is across the road)

And to make matters worse, it is also one of the places with the most world maritime trade...

On the side of Yvan, the technical problems accumulate. No pilot works, ais not more and one of its rudders still has broken its axis forcing him to change it at sea... It was the last of its stock... It should be now that this takes up at the end!

    Yvan defies the sceptics

    Incredible! .. he's finally home.

What a great story and adventure we've been privileged to follow and seem part of. Surprising and sad that it was virtually ignored by the English press though ... their loss!

[I initially attempted to write this up on 'What's New' on my website, but other priorities did not allow me to keep up so only the initial 1/3 is there]

But thanks to those, particularly to Corley, who kept this thread going all the time, when it's so easy to be distracted by other interests.

Perhaps one of these days, we'll see more of the story written up, to re-savor the excitement and adventure.
Meanwhile, back to sailing my W17. One owner just finished a 6 week cruise in the China Sea .. but as adventurous as that was, it's just 'a grain from the beach', compared to this epic voyage.

Thanks again Yvan for pushing the limits and showing us what can be done, with proper preparation, personal strength and perseverance. We all salute you!

    Hi guys
While the story might now be considered 'old news', if anyone wants to look it over in English text, you're invited to my website at 'What's New'. I've recently added a Jan 2017 PostScript to wrap up the adventure.
