It's an interesting project and I particularly like the four to a 40' container idea. If you could arrive with four demountable boats for a one design class that's surely half the barriers to admission knocked on the head straight away. The price is also very attractive if the boats are 50k for an offshore capable racing multihull that's very impressive.

Rob Denney is so far ahead of the "competition" in the Proa genre it's not funny.
Will be really interesting to see if this gets traction, I hope so, diversity is healthy.

 

interesting concept, modernize a rare native boat type.

I do not think it will ever be popular. something that does not look right about a boat with so much a-symmetry, and few would ever think that doing a shuttle instead of a tack would be a good idea, it just is not natural to think of a sailboat that way.

consider how long catamarans and trimarans have been around, and they are still not very common. I do not think proas will ever be more than a novelty.

 

i dig it! Nice looking boat good price. I think the big winner on it is the simplicity, single winch short crew capable, poeple could go for that in a big way on that selling point alone. If it caught on and was tons of just proas racing they'd all be shunting together anyway.

It will definitely be interesting to see this project if it happens. I think everyone wants to see it in action. It's probably true about the proa not taking off, because it's so far from the standard and maneuvers take a new way to think about sail handling. Sort of like the scow mini. A great solution and certainly faster, but too outside the norm. It's basically banned from IMOCA and class 40, allegedly for not making the older boats obsolete. I doubt that's the reason though considering that every new generation of imoca makes the last one fairly close to obsolete and they are now considering foils. Obsolescence is less of an issue generation to generation in the Classe 40, so maybe there they had a good point. Culture will be hard to break, but I'm an advocate. The good thing is how much support and excitement there seems to be regarding Bucket List. I don't think I've seen so much positivity for the idea on forums ever. Good luck with it Rob and keep us posted.

Was just thinking, I bet it would be more thrilling than one would think, watching a race that had moments of crabbing and blocking at seemingly a stand still. Forget the big loops to block, now your slidin and spinning in place till boom! One of them is off.
