    Centreboard

    Thanks Toby.
My tattered plan that you offer to replace is for a vertical 'daggerboard'. My B24 has a 'hinged' centreboard and it's a plan for this that I'm needing. The annexed PDF doc shows this better.

If anyone has this alternative plan I would be grateful for a copy!

    Hi GS
OS7 will know better but would seem it isn't a Lock designed mod but a builders self design.
I could be wrong so best pm Paddy.

Yes, It it isn't a Lock designed mod but a builders self design.

The pivoting centreboard for the B28 is easily adaptable for the B24.
The aspect ratio is not important so long as the wetted surface is around 4.5 sq ft.

    Hi Os
    Is this what you mentioned?
Had to wait for Nick to email this so I could format to be able to add as was too large to attach here. If it doesn't work I will resize and post again.
    Cheers

This really looks perfect. It's even signed 6/74 by the master! The centreboard is equally slender and tapered. Mine can even be set further forward with a reverse attack angle. You can feel the balance changes on the helm.
Mine has a square timber control-line trunking instead of the PVC tube.

Looks like mine has lost the retaining line groove sidewalls thus causing the lines to escape and jam things up. This is now probably beyond repair since water ingress must have occurred on the CB head.

But now armed with your plans I can make a new centreboard, perhaps with strengthened groove sidewalls. I'll check that the depth of my casing is equal to plan. It may be safer to remove the old one to check and copy dimensions.

Anyway, thanks to your invaluable help I'm sure that the problem can now be fixed. I'll post info about this replacement in due course. I note that your B24 is numbered 254. Mine is 215.

Other builders may be interested in this modification since it offers several obvious advantages to the standard daggerboard. including added longitudinal hull stiffening and mast support.

Thanks to everyone for your response and help. This gives us newcomers faith that we can keep our old B24s in good health or build new ones successfully.

The one shown by OTB is the right one, as shown in post 2093, but of course printed out more clearly.
That is the pivoting board for the B28, but is easily adapted for the B24.

The plans for the centerboard were included with my Bucc 24 plan packet. I think I ordered them back in '79 or '80 from Canadian American Multihull Services out of Maryland and were shipped from Australia.

Thanks OS7 and OTB for all your troubles. Maybe you didn't spot the authentication on the very last of the six plans sent by Karmaman. It is for B24 No:254 and is signed by Lock Crowther. It seems identical to mine.

It's good to know that this previously unknown B24 official modification has surfaced, and it gives an interesting option for newbuildings.

I would love to build mine this way. We have plenty of shallow areas in the lake I sail.

I guess I was wrong when I said this:- "Yes, It it isn't a Lock designed mod but a builders self design".
However the B28 Dwg. post dates that one.
The only difference is the planform shape of the board.
You are free to devise your own shape providing the board is small enough to allow the slot seal to close completely, but still has to be about 4.5 sq ft in area.

    Dear OS7,
B24 plans are to construct or repair a B24. Why modify even a later B28 plan for a B24 if the correct original plan exists?
The B24 project is the work of a genius that still attracts enormous praise and very few criticisms, confirmed by anyone who has had the pleasure to fly with one. There may now be a few better small trimarans around, but at values well beyond the reach of most people.

I thank you for your constant interest in helping me (and all the others)!

    Take care of yourself.
