plexiglass and vinyl esters fiberglass

Hi.thinking of using polycarbonate sheet for a shell to fiberglass over. I can't find much on the internet. Looking for a good bond. The plexiglass will not be removed.
The item will be the inside of dagger board cassette.
My concern is the plexiglass will soften and not bond. Any help is appreciated.

Why would you use this material to bond over? Why would you want Lexan inside the centerboard case? As a core, I can't think of much worse, lousy bonding, incompatible modulus spec's and expansion rates, etc. Typically cyanoacrylate is the cheap (relative term) for polycarb or you can use one of the modified acrylates marketed as specifically for these materials, like Plexus.

 

Wrap and heat bend plexiglass to dagger board.

 

You could try it but you'd be investing time and effort without really knowing if it will work (or how long it will last.)

Maybe you could wrap the board with thin plastic cling wrap and then glass over that.

 

The dagger boards are tapered top and bottom. Need a rigid form. My only concern is if the plexiglass will solvent warp.

 

You can use Formica over the board. It is rigid enough and with de-molding wax there will be no adhesion.

 

You could leave an edge of the fiberglass with a split so that you could pull it off the board. You might also wrap the board and then cut the cassette off. It can always be repaired when you put it in the boat.
