After 10 minutes of careful reading and observing the pics, I still don't know what I am looking at...

That makes me feel much better, I was starting to think that modernity has left me behind, completely on my own !

    You guys are being nice.

    Total BS.

But I might be wrong - I invite the OP to explain any single thing in common explainable facts.

Perhaps he/ she/ it (I'm trying to allow for the possibility that this is a space alien) should start with how a Puddle Duck works so we can establish some common language / concepts.

Warning: Useless ramblings based on seemingly impressive phrases found on the internet are to follow. No reality is applied or implied here so don't consume too much of your intellectual energy considering these engineering concepts that serve only as a form of self titillation for its advocate.

I have posted this warning before.

Anything which claims 'perpetual motion' is bunk.

It would be improper to put forward a diagnosis for this phenomenon. Suffice to say that lunacy is borderline to genius. This means that to find this line it is necessary to illustrate one and the other. I leave it to the real geniuses on this forum to decide to which category this belongs to. In any case, it may be a source of inspiration either way. It sure stretches the imagination, to say the least. I agree that using the term "perpetual motion" clinches the diagnosis. On the other hand, it may also be meant in an artistic philosophical kind of way, suggesting the 5 billion years of waves on the seas, going for another 5 billion years.
In any case, the rendering software is getting so hyperrealistic, it can only turn into a downer to build some of these objects for real.

A second thought... Just couldn't shrug the complexity of that object so easily off my mind. :)

I have just checked out this lady's website: http://www.margotkrasojevic.org/ . She has a lots of imagination and has made some very fancy futuristic concepts. She is also a very prolific author of drawings, renderings and illustrations: https://www.google.it/search?q=marg...MnPNcirU4fPgpgL&ved=0CCsQsAQ&biw=1600&bih=775
But I am afraid that she was born some 40-50 yrs too early. Maybe the far future will look just like she is envisioning it, but right now much of her stuff is technically too demanding and would exceed the budget of even a very wealthy client.

However, I do appreciate persons with fantasy and creative minds - even when the resulting creation is a pure utopia. Moebius is one of my favorite cartoonists and ilustrators, for the same reason:

and I think that this lady architect could have a great future as a designer of futuristic ambients for the sci-fi movie industry.
That "boat" in the OP is and will remain a product of fantasy, but the mind which has envisioned it has to be appreciated for the creativity. :)

    Cheers

    Sorry,

But it has to have some chance for reality for a picture to interest me.
This is the modern equivilent of a cartoon.
Lots of work there, it's even pretty, but she might as well be on LSD for all it matters.

My brief examination of the picture reveals she doesn't understand "balance" in a sailboat. Not much to go from without something there.

Perhaps I am too stuck in the mud. Please suggest how that could work. But there really is no point in being serious - as everyone has pointed out.
I must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed. :p

PS: calling this a cartoon does a dis-service to Bolger's cartoons.

This is what happens when you teach the ability to model, before the ability to engineer.

What keeps it afloat? I can't discern any hull. Is it a water skeeter (the bug) that floats on surface tension? (now that would be a trick)

I don't mind the scifi concepts THAT much, except when design schools embrace them. But to claim that this is being built is just a joke - except not funny.

It reminds me of the sand ships from the Martian Chronicles.
