Porthole, Port Light and Scuttle

Hi

I need a clear explanation among these three items Porthole, Port Light and Scuttles... Please distinguish these three items.

 

Porthole--usually round or rectangular--can open or be fixed.
Port light--usually round--with a water glass shaped lens----designed to allow maximum
light to the interior.

 

Rasorinc -I've always known your definition of "scuttle" as a "scupper" and "scuttle"to mean deliberately sinking a boat.

Scuttle--small-ish hatch for access through the deck. No lighting effect unless it's open.

Of course one could call the screen doors on a sub by the same name.

 

Probably not the sort of scuttle the OP was referring to, though. A scuttle can also be an opening in the side of the hull or house. Often with glazing.
