Jack up outboards do not overcome the problem of not being able to slide over obstructions and reduce the impact and damage because the thrust of the prop keeps pushing the drive against any obstruction. Jack up is too slow to react and inconvenient to operate. An outboard when tilted is an inconvenience.
The items you mention do have benefits. The same applies to mud boat and long tail drives as soon as they start to tilt up they start to loose thrust and drive at the wrong angle where as a Pivotal Drive increases thrust because it moves to a more horizontal angle.

Tom: I have asked technical questions to which you and Myark have responded with insults and personal attacks. You have not, however, provided any answers to my questions. You say that an outdrive gets damage by hitting an underwater object , but your pivotal drive can hit it without any problem. It also uses weed and "transforms them into thrust".

As many forum members point out that S/P propellers are designed to work half in and half out of the water that puts them out of being a contender for an efficient general purpose efficient propulsion for any boat and they must be a big compromise just for the sake of going a little faster and maybe saving fuel at the higher speeds.
General purpose boating must take into account bad weather and following rough seas.
If you have a propulsion system that can cope with all conditions efficiently that must be an attractive incentive for a purchaser to think about.

You are still not defining what you mean by "efficiently". What parameters are you considering?

    Would these charts be helpful?

I gave up on following the thread...

I hope they are useful in any event.... We generally used to use them when I was at France Helices. One thing to remember is that efficiency changes with the speed of the vessel.

Do you not get it, Toms placed you on his ignore list meaning he cannot read your dribble.
You are now on my ignore list, and should of done this a long long time ago.

Looks like Myark and Tom decided that since they can't answer, they will ignore any technical questions.

    agreed

Nice illustrations jmiele3. Using the left hand curves I assume this new drive system will be operating at 80% or greater efficiency across the whole range from 0-100knots if their claims are true

What is "all purpose boating" ?

Does it involve crossing oceans? Being able to carry the boat on a car roof? Because it would have to do both those things to fit all my purposes.

    Hi Sam
I cannot not compare anything either as there are no out boards or stern legs that can go in shallow water like Toms design, jets can but have weed problems and expensive to purchase.
The benefits are many so I will not to get into that as it’s been said many times over the years on boat design.
The drawing you posted of the very old design pivotal drive going back many years ago is not fair to compare as it was at the start of idea, also this pivotal drive idea is advanced on high performance boats which also pivots sideways for steering and has a good upmarket, but expensive.
My self will design this pivotal design further for simplicity and low cost manufacturing, and yes I can easily place a design patent on new development which I file myself on many times on other ideas but that’s not an issue, for example I am filing patent right now on a multi tool and cost $110 to start patent pending which if there is market I will further this into a PCT patent that gives 30 months to decide what country I will file a patent if any at the end of 30 months.
The bottom line is it comes down to manufacturing cost with quality and why I life in China with hands on all procedures.
I will have one of my new multi-tool designs on www.kickstarter.com in less than two weeks for a test run for my many other ideas, and did show a sample proto type on boat design which did not get one response so let’s see the compared web site response on innovations.

In other words, there are plenty of claims but no design.

Which boat propulsion system is the most efficient for all purpose boating?"

    Whatever you think.
For example, the same would be all purpose car or all-purpose motor bike such as a boat that can go in shallow water and deep water that has no problems with weed or sand banks and submerged logs, economical, and is good performance in rivers lakes and open sea and as you say may fit on roof of car if you think so, all purpose may be able to tow with an all-purpose car.
To have boat to travel overseas is a bit way out but if you think so show a picture what all purpose boat that does this.

It's impossible to have a technical conversation if you refuse to define the terms you are using.

We can ask myark to concrete terms in which he is being expressed. I think what he cares about is if, once he defines the terms, someone will be able to give him an answer. We should ensure, somehow, that if he concrete terms we will give a valid answer. We could give him an example of what we think is efficient and, with that definition, what is the most efficient boat, or what is the most efficient propulsion for that boat Tom is thinking about.
I certainly have not the solution but I would like, besides what are you talking about here, someone decided to be positive. And if what Tom thinks is useless, it must be said, explaining why.
Note: anyone think I attacked him, please.
