And it can be moved close to where the natural gas is being produced. When production falls off, it can go to another site.

3 km away from the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
Today the Philae probe landed on it! [IMG]

Just incredible, with the size of that object (target) and the distance involved that was a feat almost comparable to landing on the moon. It's great to see more Nations getting involved with Space exploration driving the science forward at a faster rate and reducing the tax payer load of any one nation.

The European Space Agency's Philae lander sent back its first image Thursday after safely landing
on the surface of a comet, marking the high point of a $1.3 billion, 10-year mission. One of the
lander's three feet can be seen at lower left in the picture above. NBC News.

After the anchoring harpoons failed to fire, there was a hop, a skip and a jump,
and then a less-than-ideal shadowed final landing for Philae. 1-1/2 hrs of sunlight instead
of 6 or 7 will greatly shorten battery life and mission duration.

Sounds logical with the possibility that ridge might have been a sort of back stop (Baseball) preventing further unwanted surface travel. Hopefully battery life will allow them to extract the most important data. Regardless it is still one hell of a feat and certainly nothing to feel downtrodden about if part of the mission is not accomplished.
