    Hello guys!

I am currently a final year BEng naval architecture student in Newcastle University. I am looking to do my MSc in naval architecture in the UK as well. However, I am torn between Newcastle University, University of Southampton and UCL since these three universities are the ones offering the mentioned course.

I wish to work in a classification society (preferably LR) as a surveyor when I graduate and when I have enough experience, I would like to be a naval architect for consultancy or ship designing..etc. I do not have any particular interest or limit to any size of ships.

I have read past forum threads and done some research and it seems university of southampton attracts me the most, but should i continue in NCL or even consider UCL?

    Thank you!

    Hi Marcion,

If you're unaware LR has now set up their entire HQ at Southampton on the campus of Soton Uni. Thus, considering your interest into Classification societies, it's a no brainer!

    Hello Ad Hoc.

Thank you, I am aware of that but I was wondering how would it be beneficial for students at soton university? Are there seminars held by representatives from LR or something along those lines?

    thank you.

I met up with Prof Shenoi a few months back. And if I recall correctly, from the guided tour of the new facilities and the link-up with LR, yes. There shall exist the link up between LR and students where required...or even on a simple ad hoc basis as the office are "open" as such.
