I have downloaded and gone over the plans for the Kavalier 800 and have some questions. What is the drop keel constructed of ? I presume that it is a lead casting (to provide ballast) but there is no note of this (that I have found). What is the drop keel housing constructed of?
I must say that these FREE plans are very professional!!
Thanks in advance for your assistance

Fixed keel is supposed to be assembled as 'sandwich' of vertical steel paltes of about 5 mm thickness. Or You can use iron or lead casting also.

Drop keel is actually centerboard that can be made of steel plates or plywood. No need to make it heavy.

    Hi Alik
This is my first ever post. sorry for replying to such an old article but I am looking at building the t800 also. My query on the keel is- how do you pull it back up as it does not have a casing that extends into the cabin. Do you have an arrangement where it is pulled up by a steel cable over the stern somehow?

    About the keel

Thats very interesting... The zip file I obtained explains very little of the keel assembly other than the construction of the keel of oak laminate, the keel box is not described.

I'm rather interested in the fixed keel option and would be keen to get the drawings.
