i looked for this lighthouse at the end of the world but around cape horn and not that far north-east...

 

That's the tribute to the rescue and recovery workers, adjacent to the memorial to those lost on SwissAir flight 111 in September 1998, at Whalesback, near the Peggy's point lighthouse, Nova Scotia. The two markers are made from a split boulder. The interment site is at Bayswater, to the West.

I'm guessing your video is of the Arnside tidal bore on the River Kent.

Thanks for the interesting pdf on Lismore and environs. I could imagine sailing up the beautiful loch and, sadly, not know hardly anything about its fascinating history. But I suppose that is the way it is most everywhere one travels.

What is so special about the Glensada granite that they can crush it up and export it world-wide?

 

Well done again I N - yes the tidal bore on the Kent at Arnside, NE corner of Morecambe bay. Horribly dangerous, with the tide, channels and hideous quicksand - I think the coastguard has pulled 3 youngsters out of it this year, despite all the warnings.

I don't know if there's anything special about the Glensanda granite - I think the set up they have there and the scale makes it pretty competitive... the operation is an amazing comparison with the Lismore Limestone from 100 years or so before.

Here's a report on one of the Morecambe bay quicksand rescues:

 

I understand you can reliably self-rescue from quicksand, with technique, time and patience. However, an incoming tide may not give you that time.
