I've been wondering exactly where the light was in the lighthouse? This drawing suggests at one time the light was on a tower extending above the roof. But I don't see that tower in either of the two images I posted yesterday. But I do see a "mast" to the left and behind the first image. Maybe that was where the light was? The second image in yesterday's post is of a historical reproduction. I don't think there is a functioning light there now.

Today's second image is of a light tower far away from the mystery lighthouse. If you can identify it, and know what makes it unique, that will give you a clue to the location of the mystery lighthouse.

    Not Russian.

Это купол, безусловно, выглядит России, но расположение тайна маяка № 1 примерно так же далеко от России, как вы можете получить.

Also known more colorfully by the name given to it by the French writer Jules Verne as "Faro del Fin del Mundo", or "The Lighthouse at the End of the World", who wrote a novel by the same name. It is located on Isla de los Estados (Staten Island) off the south-east tip of Argentina, east of Ushuaia, and is the southernmost lighthouse in the world.

Because of the weak oil light, as well as its unfortunate location, some mariners successfully used the light to avoid the local cliffs, but, unfortunately, ran into other nearby navigational hazards. Eventually this location was abandoned and the current lighthouse was erected not too far away. It is also known informally as "The Lighthouse at the End of the World."

The image of the other light-tower that I posted was at Isfjord (Kapp Linné), on the Svalbard islands, north of Norway. It is the northern-most lighthouse in the world.

Jules Verne got around. In "From the Earth to the Moon" he set the launch site just a few miles south of me at Crystal Springs.

"Isla de los Estados" more properly is translated as "Isle of the States" or "Insel der Staaten" in German.

Since Hoyt seems to be the only one playing the game, maybe I'm boring everyone else. But I'll post one more, and hope I'm not tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail. :)

What is unique about this last-of-its-type-in-the-US cargo/ferry steamship? I've blocked out its name, otherwise it would be too easy to solve. But I will say it's on the Great Lakes.

It is unique among its kind because it is still afloat. Coal burner?

It is the SS Badger, largest car ferry on Lake Michigan.

That was quick! Yes, it is the SS Badger, the last coal burning steamship in the US. You can see it discharging coal ash into the water from the side of the ship, which has drawn criticism from environmentalists. So it is cleaning up its act with a $1.2 million collection system.

Upon further reading about "The Lighthouse at the End of the World" I found that there were oil lamps inside of the octagonal house, not at the top of a mast or pole. There was one lamp at each window, and there was a Fresnel lens in each window to focus the light.
