Can anyone identify this Schooner for me?

I found this canvas print at a fleamarket.

I think she is schooner Brilliant (design #12) by Sparkman and Stephens

I think they are different esp' in the transom , & the SS looks a bit stouter in the rig/main boom/no flying jib although might have been changed............................I think the guys on deck might scale your pic as being a larger vessel but tricky to judge.

Good luck. She is a stock standard schooner yacht that was build from the 1890's right on through 1930's. Hundreds were built from just the top few yards. She's not a racer though. Rig is the standard practical rig of the day.

Having said all that, Ben Nicholson comes to mind as a guess. If you can positively date the photo from the clothing as pre-1910, that might help.

 

I think she has a Alden look to her, probably one of the early Malabars, maybe Gamecock or Mattakeeset, though the foreshortened photo is deceiving a bit.

 

No Malabar had doubled topmasts, Alden stayed completely away from them unless pushed by an owner. The picture is close to an Alden called Tradition, a 60' built in 1928, but the stern appears wrong (too fine) and the hawse pipes are in the wrong place...

As stated the design could be by any of dozens of people over a huge time period.....pretty hard to nail it unless what appears to be "F 2" on the main sail means something.....

 

Agreed Alden did prefer pole masts, but I've seen several with refit or built with fiddled tops.

 

I think she is NYYC E-class schooner. (Don't think there was an F class)

F stands for France I think,

Charles Nicholsons's Flame comes to mind more. I believe she was sadly lost, a fact my father informed me that I should never tell my godmother, as she had some connection to the then owner. She originally had a schooner rig I believe later converted to Bermudan. Her lines are in one of Uffa's books.
