    Hi all,

I've been busy this last year, spent more time than I would have liked in hospital...

    Anyway this is on boatpoint:

    http://www.boatpoint.com.au/boats-f...849365&Silo=Stock&Vertical=Boat&Ridx=0&eapi=2

seawind 31 for $22k. Unfortunately it's in carnavon, about as far from me as you can get and still be in australia. so I'm asking here, anyone know anything about it ?

Obviously my main concern is the hulls, balsa and all that. There must be a reason apart from the location that it hasn't sold ??

Air fare would be significant only to discover it's a wreck...I don't know if there is a good surveyor over there ?

    Any thoughts ?

I hope everyone is well and happy..

Not sure on the details but a worker from next door to the firm I work for was interested, over beers a week or so ago he mentioned it was sold?/maybe, there was a Beach Marine Sports Cruiser 10M for sale too, but no longer advertised- about 2x the volume/comfort. best to call & ask the vendor these questions to get the facts, very often you'll get a "non" sales pitch as most people honestly represent their property for sale.....................

You gotta wonder about a boat advertised with a sink full of dirty dishes.
    Care and attention none !
It looks pretty trashed, definitely a project boat.

Might be an effect of the camera lens, but that downward camber in the aluminum crossbeam forward is a little concerning. Looks like it might be a problem in the stern as well. Odd...the problem is usually the reverse!
Have to agree with rr. Looks like a pretty sloppy owner. Never a good sign.

I was in communication with the owner of sophias daughter. As you say the ad was pulled early january so I assume it's sold. I know he had interest at $45k. That boat had some issues but none terminal. He had a recent survey available.

I tried to contact the owner of the seawind but got no response. Maybe it's sold and he hasn't bothered to pull the ad, but people have been telling me for 6 months they think my caravan is sold and it hasn't. Dunno, weird.

Yeah it's untidy and yeah I spotted the camber in the beams. Assuming it got back to the east coast without breaking I'm not concerned about those things. I am mostly concerned about the hulls and rot in the balsa. That would make it a liability at any price...

So no one has experience of the boat ?

The seawind is still for sale. Got in touch with the owner, although the email he supplied has bounced. Got a couple of sms's exchanged though.

Apparently has a crack near on of the daggerboard cases.

Here is the thing. He reckons the hulls are solid glass. I've been told by several people they are balsa core ? Including the people at multihull yacht sales aus...who I think now own seawind, and teh guy I spoke to seemed to be on of the people involved in building the 31s...

So does anyone here know about seawind 31 construction ?? Maybe they are solid below the waterline and balsa above ??

I wonder what it'd cost to ship that boat from carnarvon to the east coast somewhere...

Yep; solid glass below the waterline and balsa core above and decks.
she looks pretty down on her lines at the stern in those shots...maybe all those tanks in the cockpit are actually full.
You know it's gonna be a project. I remember having a look on Vivacious many years ago when she was for sale on the Gold Coast, was nice and tidy then. A few years in the tropics and not being used have taken their toll I'm guessing.
"A crack near the centreboard casing" you might want to read as "cracked where the casing is glassed to the hull" I don't think there was any epoxy used in the construction, maybe it is down on her lines because it's filled with water? Or maybe if you threw all that **** off the boat she would float right?

Yep, went up to 25 then 35 and magically transformed from a 31 to a 1000.

I guess he's fishing for a buyer with no clue.

Anyway we exchanged a couple of sms's then he never bothered replying to my email.

Even if you got it for 20 it's cost at least 5 to bring home probably a lot more and then you've got a major restoration.

Mr Woods got me thinking about wide load permits. If that isn't too onerous maybe I can build my dream boat after all...

It is possible that the boat could be demounted for transport...depends if any release medium used around the front and rear beams before they were glassed into the hulls. They have 1 bolt per side too.The centre beam sits on aluminum castings bolted to the hulls. As the hulls are 2m wide at shoulder height I imagine you wouldn't get them both on 1 rig anyhow though.
Can't remember what the deck between hulls is that boat, mine was balsa core I think but that is easily repaired or replaced w flat sheets of duflex etc. Some had tramps only.

I was thinking it'd be cheaper to get it craned onto a container ship if one were running round the coast, or basic repair in carnavon and sail it home.

Not worried about the deck nor the inventory. My big worry is the hulls. If the balsa is breached that could be a nightmare. Also if the connecting structure is wrecked and they are stuck in the hulls that could be a world of pain.

I had thought of finding a local surveyor to do a report, probably not much dearer than me flying over, then assessing the situation from there, but the owners behavior has made me lose interest. Perhaps I'm being unreasonable but to deliberately misrepresent the boat that was puts me off.
