Well let me ask the question in another way, you have a 7.5 meter locally constructed boat in an old fashioned yard. You want to go fishing on that boat and you need to provide some security for minor incidents. What bilge output would you fit ?

This is why i posted the excel i made for myself and after seeing the incidents i described above its a matter of common sense to fit a bilge even when i know in a critical situation it will have a miner impact only.
In other words I'm trying to use logic to determine what i should fit on my boat :)

P.S the message you want me to understand is that bilge do not provide securtiy the way people think, its common sense and good practices that are more important. I understand that and thank you.

I have seen a friends boat (24 meter wooden construction) he fitted quite extensive pumping output. He even fitted 2 big pumps via a transmission to the engines with a clutch so he could use engine output as dewatering pumps.
Not to mention the other bilges pumps he has.
However he travel with his boat deep in the sea and that kind of measures make sense in a boat that size far off he shore.

Please keep in mind that in Egypt things are extremely different, we have no certifications bodies or standards for local builders.
Boat sinking is extremely common due to lack of information, inexperience, poor construction and poor / inadequate boat setup.
I have encountered no less than 4-5 incidents myself a number i am sure is staggering specially that i am not in boat building myself or see boats on daily bases.

I have over the span of joining bd.net chose to learn as much as i can and to apply common sense in decision regarding boats, simply because others in Egypt do not. Even agents selling brands would sell lake boats in rough sea areas with out even warning the owners.
Yah i might be overcompensating but its much better that what i have seen !!

I appreciate your posts a lot ! so thanks for all your kind feedback !

The message here is "the typical commercial pump is probably undersized"

The message isn't "no matter what you do it probably will not be enough"

Nobody can predict the future but, like any safety matter, sensible calculations can be made and precautions against reasonable events taken. Thank you Vulkyn.

Interesting process. The early steps of laying the foam are very similar to a method I have been developing using plywood, even to the width of the planks - but I will not use glass.
