Book for fiberglass boat building techniques

Hi all,

I have a quite experience in steel & wooden boat construction and building, I need to devolep my knowledge about fiberglass boat building techniques and construction.
Any suggestions of a book covering the above topic?

 

Fiberglass Boatbuilding For Amateurs by Ken Hankinson

 

Ken Hankinson's book is over 30 years old now, so I'd consider something that incorporates some modern techniques, resin systems and materials.

Try Arthur Edmunds: "Building a Fiberglass Boat" or Dave Geer's "Elements of Boat Strength".

 

From the practical, non engineering side, very much can be learned on the internet.

This is a very good technique for home builders of custom one off foam core boats

Engineering is a different problem. Best to let a pro engineer the laminates and structure.

 

Subscribe to Practical Boat Builder a magazine .

The air police in most countries are forcing more modern techniques than open mold hand layup , and many techniques are evolving and far too new for books.

A couple of dozen back issues or a disc will give you what you need to understand how its done today.

 

Or maybe you mean Professional BoatBuilder magazine?

I don't think Proboat has much to offer for regular people. It seems a bit esoteric.

I mean it has good info, but is usually technical type articles a long way from beginner experience or amateur situations. It's also just random articles of different marine trades, a lot of company and individual designers bio/history. It does not offer straight, beginning to end tutorial guides on something like 'fiberglass boat building techniques'.
