Most of our modern day women pirates here do their pillaging from the seat of government, along with their brethren.

Well, it might be good for those poor, downtrodden, never bomb anyone, never kill anyone, never commit genocide, those poor Somalis .... it might be good for them to gang up on some hostages ....

Maybe we should take your side in this discussion.

    What do you think?

Should the poor defenseless Somalis capture a bunch of European hostages?

I think you you've intentionally misinterpreted my side in the discussion, so I don't feel the need for further comment on this because can't fairly discuss with one who intentionally misinterpret just to provoke . . .

    Cheers,

I don't see anything controversial in Angelique's words.

That is why I apologized, she evidently did not mean to write on the side of the poor downtrodden pirates ....

Yes, this is what was meant . . . . the possible hunt by Somali pirates for new Belgians hostages to serve as exchange material . . . .

OK, I take it now that the misinterpretation was inadvertently and not intentionally as I first thought, so the apologies are of course accepted . . :)

It's hard to imagine how you could reasonably, or even possibly, see that she was.

Plenty of English, Dutch, French, Barbary States, Chinese, Japanese, and other pirates, too. So what's your point?

Agreed. I can't even imagine a rational thought process that could wind up there.

That piracy , poverty and lack of effective government go hand and hand.

To solve piracy concentrate on building effective institutions coupled with economic assistance

At present billions of dollars have been spent seeking a military solution to the issue. Nothing has been accomplished...pirates are still there and the people in the region still live in extreme poverty without hope .

Actually, it seems that the number of pirate attacks in the area has dropped dramatically lately. But it is an equilibrium maintained by sheer military power of foreign navies and on armed contractors on board the transiting ships.
As soon as the military effort decreases, it will imo all get back to the past levels, unless more fundamental economic and social problems are resolved in those countries, as you have noted.
