It'll be great to see some more boats have a go and use the Sydney to Auckland thing as record worthy of trying for.

Disagree. Honesty is what is all about. As we all saw in the 34 th Americas cup regattas.

As far as the sydney hobart race is concerned you can,t go by that. Most other multihulls boats have not been invited. They would gain more credibility if they invited some northern Hem boats. But they will not do that I suppose because they in all probability would beat them despite not having local knowledge. Like my trainer told me once in my early boxing days you can't kept fighting the person you have already beaten 3 times, no body gains.

If dickson is not on board team Australia will not win the restricted race starting boxing day 2013.

The person did not view the tracker to see the two different tactical courses taken before answering and team australia would not in all probability sailed the course they did with their usual crew calling the calls. I put more weight on my knowledge and credible yachting full time publishers authors than blow hearts pushing a dishonest like theme. on the internet.

Great Idea BlunderBus.......... I wonder if a new record might be set for the return leg Auckland to Sydney.

The proposed exhibition event Sydney to Hobart should be a good one, what's really come to light for me is th tracker makes a great aspect of the last event in the Coastal Classic, I really liked the Team Aus one with the Satellite pic, great to see some of the choice country side along the way.

Jeff what do you think about the new handicap system that has just been divised bt ISAF.

Computer generated. Design, weight, theoretical hull speed, no age allowance for vessel, but weather map for the proposed route with wind direction and velocity inputed into the computer as well and a handicap determined by the time the vessel would take to sail the course if sail at 100% optimum at all times by the computer.

I like the idea so an old clunker as you put it sails their boat at 98% optimum the whole race and team vodafone or team australia only sail at 70% optimum or less than 98% then they are the [old clunker] are better sailors and deserve the major prize and accolades. So even a trailer sailer can win a major race.

This is where the emphasis in a yacht racing should be.

ISAF state to many good older boats and not so older boats are not entering races because the money boat and new designs make them uncompetitive with the present old handicap rating rules. Means no separate classes for monohulls, trailer sailers and multihulls they all race in the same class / division except for size.

Less trophies and sponsors to sponsor the trophies and prizes which would allow to extend to sixth place say.

Still have line honours for the speed cadets but with less accolades.

Who won the impossible car draw prize.

Team Australia got extra handicap penalty for larger sails.

The impossible car draw was not won sadly but plenty of grog was comsumed waiting and watching the draw.

Havn't had a look at it, but to input the expected weather might be pretty cool, is that weather adjusted before or after the event?

It' a terrific idea to revitalise some older boats to be competitive, a few years back I raced a couple of seasons on a Duncanson 34, re-rigged by Michael Spies to an optimum for sail area etc, did pretty good at the local club for an old 70s boat. I raced a few times on a 9.5M composite/carbon beamed cat, every race the handicapper adjusted on crew numbers.

Gave up racing just because of kids sports etc, will go back just to do inshore, thrash around for a couple a hours.... then talk it all up at the bar

All good stuff esp' as not every one got deep pockets, I might even get my old thrasher Seawind out!
