What policies do I support that will lead to the destruction of civilization? Give me some specifics.

The UN bogieman under the bed doesn't worry me. It's an imaginary threat, and there are enough real ones to contend with. The UN only has about 90,000 military observers, police, and troops scattered around the world.

Here are the top ten countries supplying troops: Pakistan is contributing the most with 8,230 personnel, followed by Bangladesh (7,986), India (7,878), Ethiopia (6,502), Rwanda (4,686), Nigeria (4,684), Nepal (4,495), Jordan (3,374), Ghana (2,859), and Egypt (2,750). That accounts for roughly half the UN's forces; the rest come from 94 different countries. Surprisingly, Wikipedia says the most respected UN forces are the 'highly disciplined' Bangladeshi troops.

You're actually worried about that relative handful of mostly third-world forces trying to 'occupy' the US? I'm not - especially since if we stopped paying our dues, the UN couldn't afford the fuel to get them here. :D

You have a point: in this discussion, we've been generally conflating Greenpeace and Paul Watson's Sea Shepherds bunch (or at least I have been). They aren't necessarily the same people, and don't necessarily pursue the same goals.

And I'm familiar with people saying one thing, while doing the other. I remember back in the eighties there was a United Auto Workers convention, and one of the big topics was how to stop the Japanese cars that were flooding into the country and taking American jobs. One enterprising reporter went to the parking lot and started counting, and about two thirds of the participants were driving imported vehicles themselves...

Both of them are mostly imaginary, invented and promoted by politicians and con men who specialize in ginning up 'us-vs.-them' sentiments for their own benefit.

But don't try to tell Hoyt or Wayne that; it'll ruin their day. :D

Did you imagine what miracle! This thread didn't turn to climate change or global warming.
    We are quite good :p

Well, in fact, the whole Russian Arctic gas mining caper is due to global warming decreasing the sea ice, so those drilling rigs can be positioned there and not be at (much) risk of turning into debris when a megatonne floe comes along.

    Possibly.....

Haven't been following events closely. Small detail of a tree taking out my power line the other day. However what I'd like to see is the Russians confiscate the Greenpeace vessel, use it as an artificial reef somewhere, and boot all the crew out of the country. Nearly all of the crew would come under the old Soviet classification of 'useful idiots' and I'd not like to see them jailed. Taking their ship away would reduce their ability to meddle and grandstand.

There is not much on this thread that is. It is the usual suspects with the usual topics with the usual finale of polemic ignorance and diatribe.

Why these usual suspects come onto a boating website forum to continuously and consistently debate/discuss such non-boating issues is beyond me, just as much as why it is consistently allowed too!

I agree with you, I think.

WHY do all these people who claim to design and build boats find so much time to waste arguing about how they want to change everything from what worked to what may or may not work, but no one knows .... ?

Why don't we discuss building BOATS?

Or, are 'we' all out of fresh ideas? Are 'we' just taking a break until we come up with new ideas for boats that work?

If that is the case, then maybe all the 'change agents' might be worth reading if they will finally come up with change that is good for people, and boating in particular.

I think, while I disagree with much the Russians do, that arresting crazy people for boarding their vessel is good for the safety of boaters everywhere.

It is not a good idea that people can board your boat or ship at sea without your expressed permission ....

There are too many crazies out there pirating as it is, for innocent people to be stuck with constantly fearing the next boat they meet is dangerous to them.

    I think.

    What think the rest?

Good idea. I have decided to add a hydrofoil to the TEOTWAWKI boat as an experiment to improve performance before building anew.

These kind of threads get shut down with the claim that it's a waste of bandwidth and not related to boats.

Look at the number of posts and number of views for the different threads here.

The Costa Concordia thread, 1200 posts, 173000 views. What good is that here? Anybody here designing a cruise ship?

Favorite quotes, 1138 posts, 46000 views. How many times can you quote 'there's nothing so wonderful as messing about in small boats' before you drift into un boaty sayings?

Boat jokes. 6500 posts, 517000 views. If jokes only worked for designing and building boats, it would be swell.

Random pictures. Talk about chewing up bandwidth. 5400 posts, 832000 views. Hardly anything to do with boats.

What I can't understand is with 39 separate forums and sub-forums on this site, why some, the usual some, have to jump in whining about something being off topic. There's got to be hundreds, maybe thousands of more or less open, viable threads going. If our ignorant, polemic diatribes upset you, go to some other thread and make yourself useful. Tell people just one more time how to fix rotten stringers. Solve the Question once and for all...Polyester or Epoxy? Do it again tomorrow when some one else asks the same Questions again. Or jump into this one and reveal to us how ignorant we are.

You are the one who come on with insane statement, put oil on the fire, make incessant political comment and after that refuse to disclose the sources. So don't be a total hypocrite and change your tune when it suit you. Or to please an other member?
So now you are suddenly in need to talk about boat? Oh I see to run from your actions. Good man, good man.

Hey, no need to pop a seal, it is just a conversation.
