I had missed it. Very cool. I like the core board with drastic waste reduction!

 

I got cabin windows now And a bit of undercoat splashed around here and there... i gotta use the cutouts and enlarge them a bit so they can goto the plastic guys and use it as a mold for heat forming the actual windows.



I also made a little mold for the flush hatch gutters... i havnt tried to make any gutters from it yet tho... will layup my first one over the weekend and see how it goes...



Just working on fairing out the cockpit at the moment, ill get some pics of that when im finished back there...

 

cockpit fairing... gees this is taking forever, feels like slow progress, probably the worst part of the boat to fair due to so many internal and external coves and corners nooks and crannies etc... the inside of the cabin will be much the same no doubt

Enjoyed reading through both the design and progress to date build threads, nice work mate. I hardly understand half of whats going on but sure looks like you know what you about. Love how the boat looks in the renderings

Looking forward to see how you fit her out for fishing. You have mentioned gamefishing, old school trolling? Again looking forward to see how you set up for standup game and or game chair. Also whether you build for current trends of heavy spin gear popping and jigging, how you will look hanging over the side with a jig rod loaded up and room to swing an 8' popping rod

For sure will be one of the cooler looking boats in the GBR fleets!

 

Nah I'm not interested in big marlin fishing, so it won't be setup for that stuff with a chair etc... I don't mind popping for GT's, but we normally do that off the front of the boat, have a huge area up there so no dramas with that and no cabin top or anything to interfere with casting rods etc... The back deck will be setup for trolling pelagics and bottom fishing. Plenty of rod holders etc and a rod rack under the ceiling, plenty of room for beer and bait and the catch etc...

A catamaran with high bridegedeck clearance a bit of a fishing compromise as I can envisage a few problems trying to get big fish around the outboards which jut out quite aft of the deck area with more height and more difficult access to the waterline in order to land them. There's a few ideas which could solve that, dunno if I could be bothered tho, just use a decent gaff. I had little choice for the hull in order to get the efficiency I was looking for however, as I don't want a boat I can't afford to use frequently.

 

I am glad to hear that, I am not a fan of traditional big game fishing for my own reasons

I have seen some interesting fitouts in Japanese GT vids, some boats have a semi cage on the forward deck that a fisho leans into. I think there was one shot in Japan that had a boat with lean cages on the transom corners clear of the outboards!

One trick that I have thought of to fit if ever I have a big boat is to install a slide out wet ramp at back to pull up a decent fish into the boat if releasing is the aim. Something like a slick trough

I once fished a cat that had a platform extension from the deck out between the outboards. Thought that was pretty cool. It had a knee rail and rod holders at the ends

Well it looks better with some paint on her, even if it is just primer...





I think ill infuse the topsides next, i need to get her water tight before the wet season kicks in and i can work on the inside whilst weathering the cyclones. I would have preffered to leave them off until the inside was finished, but building outside under a temporary shelter changes my priorities as opposed to building in a shed. I may just fit them with brackets or somthing so i can still get them off to work inside...

On another note, ive got onto the front windscreen via a glazier who will make it for me - most likely 10mm toughened glass, maybe 8mm we will see. But the center panel opens up via a pair of gas struts and some frameless glass pool fence hinges, picked them up today. I was thinking about a rubber t-handle type latch for it, but i might try this magnetic pool fence latch also, it seems to work quite well...

 

To get rid of the spiral wrap build up you had to grind off, put the infusion mesh UNDER the spiral wrap nothing over the top except the bad. What cps resin did you use for the big panels?

 

Hi Jim, i was still getting some print through from the spiral wrap no matter if its above or below the the flow media. Its not as bad - leaves as impression as opposed to blobs of resin when the lines are put over the top - but i found a better way regardless... i dont use spiral wrap anymore, instead a flat plastic channel section for jointing cement board linings, and have eliminated the problem. no print through and no resin blobs, no wrestling with the stuff to keep it where you want it, and nice and cheap too...
