    Hi all,

This forum and website is amazing! I'm definitely going to spend some time looking around. But i wanted to put a post up to see if you guys/gals might be able to help me!

I work a TV production company. We're working on a new show for a major cable network about custom boat building. And i'm not talking about just any old custom boat - I'm talking about really unique, crazy, awesome and bizarre boats. (I know that may disappoint some, but the show will hopefully draw in viewers who may otherwise not be interested in how boats are actually built!)

    Boats like:

What i'm hoping you all might do is point me in the direction of some really great custom boat builders. This can be sizable companies, with 20+ employees, or just two guys in a garage who can do anything. For this show, we'll need the builders to be based in the U.S.

If you know of anyone who fits the bill, or you or someone you know is interested, please contact me!

I'm also happy to answer almost any questions you might have.

    Thanks!

Thanks - I'll check them out! I'll edit my above post, but i should mention that companies need to be based in the U.S.

Actually - are these companies? Posters on this forum? You'll have to excuse my ignorance on the matter! Can you tell me where/how to find more info on each?

Some are private builders and some are overseas. dskira, SamSam and PAR are in the USA. There is a lot of talent on both sides of the pond.

I sent messages to Dskira and PAR. But SamSam isn't accepting emails. Is he by any chance Sam Devlin?

I am wondering what the real story is here. You are looking for "really unique, crazy, awesome and bizarre boats" and your example is a parade float? The word that is out of place is 'boat'.

The names given above are experienced designers and naval architects -they make boats that work and they are legally prohibited from making junk that 'might float a little while'. The nominators are thinking you are Robin Leach but I suspect you're more Jerry Springer. You are not going to find the next Honey Booboo in the lists above. These are the guys who can tell you how those crazy awesome 'boats' will fail. The names above would be good consultants to find the builders -they have hourly rates but in the right conditions will work for drinks.

I am not saying you won't find interesting loonies on this site -like the guy building a boat to scaled dimensions of Noah's Arc, or the travel trailer that can be backed into a lake and used as a houseboat. There seems to be an endless stream of 'designer craft' -but those are all just pretty pictures and models of things that don't work and are never built.

My nominees are some guys building really outrageous spectacular impractical craft -no cost or lives spared - Larry Ellison -but he may be a hard 'get'.

If you are looking for innovative boat builders look up the water tribe everglades challenge -hundreds of entries, mostly self built. There are great talents in the development or box rules -international canoe, moth, A cats... Then there are the 'One Design Wanabes' -builders who have no chance of making a profit unless they develop a one design race fleet. Builders representing heritage and culture -wooden boats in new england and the Pac northwest, and outrigger canoes in Hawaii.

Or you could just do another reality show -Man decides to build a boat, wife considers divorce...

It could work, like Josh says, if it makes you happy...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwRqD4Kmiy4

Being a celebrity Shipwright is OK, just a few autographs & talking to fans, the Paps' can be a little annoying... no big deal though.....

Why did you have to go and sink his boat so quickly?

I wanted to watch him float an anchor ....

    ;)
