I'm a french guy, living in South of France. I've seen an english catamaran model, Hirondelle, which matches with my cruising program. But no one for sale near me. All those sold in Northern Europe are old and expensive and ill with osmosis.
Is it possible to get DIY plans of a 23' (7 meters) sailing catamaran, similar to Hirondelle, in plywood/epoxy construction? Without being a software specialist, but knowing the cost of working on such plans, and ready to pay for that job.
    Regards. Laurent

It would be cheaper / faster to find one and refit it, and you would end up with a better boat in the end.

Old doesn't mean bad, those were well built boats that can be had for a good price leaving lots of budget for refit.

I sailed on one 35 years ago for a long weekend in the Bahamas, a lot of boat in a little package.

Yes, nice boats. Some have keels and some have daggerboards
Buy an old one and refit it. It will fit through the Lateral and Midi canals so would make a nice trip home just on the engine.

I agree, but no second hand Hirondelle near me!
I ask for a plywood epoxy remake, cause the boats I found are in Netherland and 10 000 euros (to much) and in England, but there is no answer to my emails!
It's the reason why I'm looking for a DIY Plywood/epoxy replica... And with in board diesel motor... if you please :)

    hello Laurent,
my opinion: if 10000 euros is too much, dont think about building yourself a 7m bridgedeck cat (even if you get a used rig and motor cheaply it ll cost more in the end). And building yourself a 7m boat just because the second hand market hasnt the right boat in your area is the wrong motivation imho. It will need hundreds or even more than thousend hours to build it. Sailing your self-built cat one day must be your big dream and building the boat your passion, otherwise you probably will get frustrated and give up.

You come from Perpignan? Have you been at the ports of Canet Plage and St. Cyprien Plage? There are several catamarans (also old ones, not only big Catanas). Maybe you meet owners and can talk to them. Perhaps they know someone who wants to sell his catamaran.

Nevertheless here are some cat designs similar in size to the Hirondelle:
    - Coral Coast 24 from Jarcat (http://www.jarcatmarine.com/)
    - ECO 7.5 from Kohler (http://www.ikarus342000.com/ECO7page.htm)
(pics: http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/k-designs/photos/albums/755104354, maybe you have to join the group to be able to see the pics)
    - Breton 7.3 from Simpson (http://www.duckflatwoodenboats.com/mainpages/gallery?KID=65

Listen to what Blacky said. And spend time looking for a used boat, even if you have the skills and money it will take you a year plus to build your own, and most probably 2 years plus.

Spend the time looking for used in your budget

Provided there is nothing major wrong with it looks to be a good buy. Even if it needed a bit spent on it and a couple of new sails a person would be way ahead on trying to build something similar from scratch. A decent 4 stroke outboard would be better than a diesel in a boat this size.
