You know imaginary number, you should not take over the thread every time the word "Climate" is on the forum. One post at a time, with a answer with your own knowledge will be nice. What other think in the link you post are certainly important, but it is not the goal. And I know how to read the news also.
What Blomberg has to say is great, but it is just repeating someone else story, since Blomberg already did it.

"people do not fear climate change enough" is not about science. the title itself assumes there is a "proper" level of fear that people should have, and that the experts know what it should be. So now experts are going to judge if we have the proper level of fear, as they determine? What rubbish.

 

Daniel, normally I don't like people who bury a thread in posts, especially if it's my thread. But one reason I started this particular thread was to give Imaginary Number a place to keep posting. I appreciate the fact that he gathers so much information and so many quotes, and puts it all together in one convenient place.

First you chide me for “repeating someone else(’s) story,” then you immediately turn around and “repeat the story” found in Jeremiah 2:7, but without even bothering to provide quote marks or give attribution. What do you say we confine our discussion to the topic of this thread without worrying too much about which level of hell* Dick Cheney deserves to land in?

But to answer your question more directly, the reason I quote news reports of scientific studies is for the same reason that you quoted the Bible. You believe that the Bible is authoritative, apparently even in regards to geophysical topics, so the Bible is what you choose to quote. I, on the other hand, believe that scientists are as close to being authoritative as we are going to get regarding geophysical topics, so that is why I quote them.

It's okay with me if you wish to quote the Bible if it pertains to the topic of this thread. But I hope you will also give me the option of quoting those sources which I consider to be informative to our discussion.

* It's the 2nd hottest, BTW.

 

actually I enjoy the articles and the links as well. But much of them are not about the science of climate change, but irrelevant opinions actions taken by law makers, or critics.

It would be nice to just have articles about the science of climate change. that is the more interesting things to read.

 

The existence of human-driven climate change has long since moved beyond the point of genuine scientific debate. The supposed debate we're being subjected to is mostly a phony one, fueled by people with a stake in denying it. That doesn't mean all the details have been sorted out, but scientists worldwide almost unaminously agree that the planet is warming at an unusual rate - and that human activity is a large part of the reason.

There are going to be consequences. If we don't change some of our ways, the planet's going to warm faster and the consequences will be more extensive. So there's no reason to get indignant when someone points that if people aren't worried enough to do something about it, they aren't worried enough....even if that someone happens to be an expert.

Instead of continuing a pointless debate about whether climate change is real, people should be debating what we can and can't, should and shouldn't do about it. There's plenty of room for argument there, and I don't have any pat answers.

New Zealand has just had it`s warmest winter since records began..I think that is how they reported it. I would still like it to be much warmer. Is not Whether, Weather, an interesting topic? I wonder why experts can never agree about anything. Apparently it is the extremes of temperatures that cause all the bother.
