When there has been a lot of rain and they are letting a lot of water out of the dam at Canyon Lake, the Guadalupe can be a lot of fun in a kayak. That is where I learned how to paddle one of those things.

If you post an URL as normal text on this forum it always turns automatically into a link after clicking on the button ‘‘Submit Reply’’ or on ‘‘Preview Post’’. The only tricky thing is when there is an ‘‘ ) ’’ on the end of the URL, that is where it goes wrong in this automatic procedure.

It isn't a big problem and it's easily manually restored, but let's see if the Mod fixes it in the forums software to solve this automatically for the future.

    Good luck !

OK, you computer experts, please tell me how to save some of the boat pics on Yachtworld site?? It seems there is some sort of blocker that no longer allows you to right click and save as.

    ANNOYING !!

I'm not a computer expert but this is how I do it... If right clicking doesn't work then hold the left click and drag the mouse cursor over the picture (starting outside the picture) and select the pic like selecting text. If the picture is selected then push the keyboard keys ‘‘Ctrl’’ and ‘‘c’’ simultaneous which is copy for 'Windows'. Then past* it to an E-mail concept where you can right click the picture and store it. The E-mail concept can then be discarded. At least this works for me, so I hope it works for you too, and maybe there are easier ways to do it . . ? ?
    * push the keyboard keys ‘‘Ctrl’’ and ‘‘v’’ simultaneous which is past for 'Windows'
    Good luck !

    . . . . not right clickable here . . .
Example done by above procedure but not stored, just picked up the pic's URL with the described procedure and hotlinked* the pic here where it's right clickable . . .

    * which will disappear here when the photo at Yachtworld goes off-line
    Good luck !

save the webpage then reload by clicking on the saved web page and you'll be able to use "save as".
Alternatively "save as complete" and the pic will be in the created sub folder.

It seems a bit dumb not to let the prospective buyer look at the pics offline.

I use the "Snipping Tool" for this. It allows you to window any part of a picture or page, and save it in several different formats.

Whats the snipping tool , how do you use it ?

I just had a play with the yachtworld site and you can hit page reload and keep right clicking on the pic and eventually you can "save as"

left click on the "start" icon (the Microsoft 4 flag), type "snipping" into the "search programs and files." If it's on your computer click on the icon and your off!

Thank you very much... I have dual monitors and cropping a Screen capture is a pain. This is much more efficient.

Looks like it was shaped with a small hand-adze.

I'm not familiar with their methods. Did they just chop the center of the log out, or start by burning as much of it out as possible?

Here's an old documentary from 1948, that caught the very end of a long tradition of carving pirogues from solid logs in Louisiana. It starts with a tree being felled, and ends with the builder paddling away in the finished boat. One of the most interesting hours I've spent on the internet....

Interesting stem treatments, sort of an overhanging shelf. I recall doing something similar for a canoe that I wanted to fit into a small space. So I put a transom in instead of the usual canoe stern to shorten it. I planned to make a pair and wanted to stack them, so instead of using knees to reinforce the transom/gunnel joints I extended the gunnels a few inches past the stern and put in an external shelf which acted as an external knee. It also had a removable thwart. I never got around to building the other one though!

It's a replica dugout exhibited in Saxman Native Village in Ketchikan, Alaska.

This pic showed up here when I looked for the making, not sure it's the same canoe though, but it could be . . ? ?
