We have had this discussion before. No point in re-hashing it.

    Have a great day, rwatson.

If it's already as bad as it can get the most likely thing to happen is improvement. This is the case for most folk, you may be an exception :)

    - but I think the real problem is, Daniel's been spending too much time in a climate thread, not a good place to restore your fiath in your fellow man . . .

hahaha - good to see the positive vibes filtering through the internet.

When you think about it, anyone who is able to own and use a computer, 'talk' to thousands of people around the world, search through thousands of volumes of hi quality knowledge in milliseconds, is about 100 times better off than 7/8ths of the world.

In one generation, us 'lucky ones' have achieved the ambition of the all those great minds of the world over that last 30,000 years.

    - it doesn't seem to matter what you're at the bottom of, when you're at the bottom of it . . .

How then to explan how poor the general knowledge of the "computer literate" generations is ? After watching Eddie Maguire's quiz show for a while ( you know the one), you notice people under 45 can't get the right answers even when he's hinting them to switch ! Unless you count what some rock band's first album was called as "knowledge".

Thats a common complaint from the 'old school'.

In the old days, we had to commit everything to memory, times tables, historical 'facts' etc.

Nowadays, we are unable to remember all we need to know - so the ability to research quickly and accurately, is paramount.

Imagine an accountant that can remember the entire Aus. Tax Code, Corporate law, Local Government Regulations etc etc. Even small business owners have Occ. Health and Safety, Consumer law and product knowledge overload.

The stuff Eddie MacGuire puts out there is pure sugar coating, and very little of it is strategically important to remember.

Some of it is trivia, but some is knowledge of pivotal historic events, and for the most part they are utterly clueless. They wouldn't know, e.g., what war the Battle of the Somme was in, even if they could guess the century. That is a kind of poverty and ignorance that I'd say dishonours their forebears.
