A tree is a living thing arguably harmed by being chopped down, this boating thing may never have got started adhering to that principle. So are you a vegan or not, myark ?

“To be a vegetarian is to disagree — to disagree with the course of things today. Starvation, world hunger, cruelty, waste, wars — we must make a statement against these things. Vegetarianism is my statement. And I think it’s a strong one.”

"It is my view that the vegetarian manner of living by its purely physical effect on the human temperament would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind" Albert Einstein

Myark is a bot, imo. either that, or too much tofu has taken its toll.

"The amount of amount of food aid necessary to eradicate worldwide human malnutrition, 30 million tonnes, the amount of foodstuffs fed to the western worlds livestock population 900million tonnes." Linda McCartney.
Yes I'm proud. I'm a fisherman who doesn't eat anything he doesn't grow or catch himself. If i don't fish or hunt, I'm veggie. We've sold ourselves into slavery by either accepting the status quo or ranting about it in a chaotic display of juvenile problem solving. The answer is the middle way. Take responsibility for your own consumption, prudence is a good character trait and displaying it isn't stingyness.
Oh and one of my favorite quotes
"If it seems too good to be true, it probably is" dunno who said it. Don't buy or make junk, it always works out to be more expensive in the long term.

"My refusing to eat flesh occasioned an inconveniency, and I was frequently chided for my singularity, but, with this lighter repast, I made the greater progress, for greater clearness of head and quicker comprehension. Flesh eating is unprovoked murder." Benjamin Franklin

Mother Nature seems not to agree, Myark. Although humans can well subsist purely on vegetable matter, it would be fair to say, imo, that in times of crisis and dire necessity, the ability of humans to digest animal flesh has been a life saver. I would think that on many occasions in the history of your ancestry, it would have been vital to the continuation of your line of descent. I see no real incongruity between eating meat and the ethical treatment of animals, the two are not as tightly bound as you seem to suggest. I dare say many a vegetarian has treated animals badly, such as, for example, spreading rat poison.

The natural history of the rat is tragically similar to that of man ... some of the more obvious qualities in which rats resemble men — ferocity, omnivorousness, and adaptability to all climates ... the irresponsible fecundity with which both species breed at all seasons of the year with a heedlessness of consequences, which subjects them to wholesale disaster on the inevitable, occasional failure of the food supply.... gradually, these two have spread across the earth, keeping pace with each other and unable to destroy each other, though continually hostile. They have wandered from East to West, driven by their physical needs, and — unlike any other species of living things — have made war upon their own kind. The gradual, relentless, progressive extermination of the black rat by the brown has no parallel in nature as close as that of the similar extermination of one race of man by another...
