Yes, very nice, ey? Looking like a traditional motor-sailor, stocky and clumsy, but in reality - So versatile, at a very reasonable price for a new boat of that size. Perfect for the Stockholm archipelago, getting into the shallow bays or sailing straight up on a beach.. Perfect for lakes and channels. Makes a pretty comfortable caravan behind the car.. A single person can rig it and sail it. And the "B" class version can handle ocean crossings.. The sales rep said they can do all kind of customization also . I'd like to test sail it someday, and try the trailer-sailer maneuvers. Definitely a strong candidate for my future boat. Perhaps with a second hand Fabola Campus 650/6.6 as an interim step.

..Moving back to Yrvind - Who has been designing custom boats for himself for so long, very interesting and experimental crafts, but in most cases a bit too extreme for the average aspirational small boat blue ocean sailers..
- It would be so cool, and a major gift to the community, if he could design (and then sell the drawings for) a little bit more conventional craft, which still captures his philosophies..
-A fairly small sailboat, made for single handed cruising, but with room for 1-2 guests? A little bit bigger, but below 18-20 feet is fine, as long as it has reasonable volume and headroom.
-Maybe with divinycell as building method, if not too complex for an amateur?
-Trailerable and with retractable rudder and center board?
-Unsinkable and with plenty of safety features, built strong but light?
-That can do without engine, with oars or sculling? (But with outboard as an option? )
-Simple but efficient sail & rig setup, with option to swiftly increase/reduce sail area?
-Etc?

(Actually, Manie, I suppose your boat comes very close to that )

The problem with my boat is that it is fantastic for an old fart like me,
all my "boating" is done alone "singlehanded" anyway.
So my "mancave" principle is 100% effective and comfortable for ONE

for two young lovers with stars in their eyes my boat is fantastic BUT for a married couple it may be a bit cramped unless the missus REALLY loves the water

that is why I love the Haber 660 Cutter maybe in my next life

Hello all! Glad Midsommar! (Midsummer celebrations in Sweden)



This thread has gone a bit quiet. And Yrvind's progress on the current project seems steady but a bit slow. But he's in no hurry. Will the boat be ready by summer 2014? Hardly sooner I'd guess.

Meanwhile, would you like to buy a Yrvind-type of boat? I discovered that you actually can in Sweden, on a similar note as I suggested in an earlier post. Hand-built on order I think. Might be possible to find a used one also possibly. Will set you back around €60000 but perhaps it's a good deal, I don't know.

The only thing is, I do enjoy sitting in an open Cockpit, even if it takes away space and perhaps reduces seaworthiness..

I'll wrap up with some pics from latest trip on my little "Hrafn" (Raven) , which now is almost 100% completed renovation-wise, only fiddling with the interior and might buy a little auto-pilot to make single-handed sailing easier..

Right, the progress on Sven's build is steady, we who don't have to do the work are the impatients but that's not Sven's problem, he'll just build on till he's ready

However seeing the last picture here I might suggest a good moaning chair to make contemplating a bit more comfortable

This boat is becoming way too complicated and over engineered, the new swim platform and rudders is questionable? I just don't know anymore - what do you guys and girl think ????

 

Can't blame the guy for wanting a safe swim platform for the roaring 40's..

What looks a bit weird for my novice eyes is how far behind the hull the rudders will be placed. Perhaps helpful for downwind sailing provided the round little hull don't bob around too much, lifting them out of the water. But what about sailing on reach/close hauled? Would force sailplan to be further aft, which in turn requires more of the ballast in the nose? Or?

The side hatches close to the waterline looks a tad scary-What if there is a freak wave on a sunny day or they temporarily fail during harsh conditions?

Regardless, I'm sure there will be many iterations and experiments on design before we see the final product.
