    MartinV,

    Perhaps this might interest you?

    http://www.bateau.com/proddetail.php?prod=LB26

I purchased the full set of plans & building instructions from Bateau.com in 1996, but have not been able to find the time to build the boat, as I also have the plans for DE25, purchased 3 months earlier. Decisions, decisions!

    http://www.bateau.com/proddetail.php?prod=DE25Cabin

Time & tide wait for no man. Build the fullsize boat & then build the model whilst you are cruising. :p:p

    Good luck.

    Addendum.

eyschulman is right about Sam Devlin. Here is the link. http://www.devlinboat.com/

lobster boat whats in a name?

The designation lobster or down east has obviously morphed into a broad difficult to define type. While this may not be accurate it is in such common use in the industry that fighting it is a steep uphill battle. The same thing happened to the designation of a trawler type. I do believe there are now boats that can plane being called trawlers. I believe a lot of this is due to sales hype but some must be due to design tinkering with modifications of the more traditional hull types. I think the designation of planning-semidisplacement and displacement with their subdivisions is much bettter. I am presently having a boat built and I am not sure what you would call it. It has roots in a northwest lake union dream boat and some downeast. I think fast semidisplacement would be the best.

    Tad,

I would not dispute your observation about the LB26. Way too upmarket to use for hauling pots.

Probably too large! The Draco Volans by Sam Devlin is under construction & it's new owner Ed Schulman, has very determined views about it. Down East hull form & Lake Union Dreamboat derived looks to suit the North West cruising conditions. It would suit Southern England conditions as well as Summer has turned out colder & rainer than the Met Office forecast. So what else is new?

MartinV, I would suggest you view the Alder 18.

    Hi Perry,

It's a long circuitous route from Downeast hulls to fake lobster boats to Deamboats.....here's my latest take on the last one....39' to build in Croatia in cold-molded wood........

Morning Geltlemen, Not sure if we are still talking about the original post, but here's a beautiful hull - the lines came from a 1952 Alvin Beal designed boat. I don't think these plans were available when the original post was written.

Go to "Stock Plans" and scroll down to "DIANA".

BTW Tad - I've not talked to you before, but you've got done some impressive work. Your latest "Dreamboat" above is beautiful.

    Tad,

Just perfect. They have such presence. Your secret middle name must be Blanchard. :p Skylight on the foredeck; dancing a foxtrot to a wind up gramaphone, aft of the helm. Delicious! The Miss Barton School of Ballroom Dancing (1955) has a lot to answer for.

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I will start of with something like the Bateau HM19 http://bateau.com/proddetail.php?prod=HM19. Maybe alter the cabin and pilothouse somewhat to create that lobster boat look.

    Poll

    Dear forum users,
I'd appreciate very much your opinion on a new semidisplacement/low planing speed boat project.
I'd be very grateful in you could spend few seconds in filling in the questionnaire I prepared at following link:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...R1F3V3lHWWc6MQ

As soon as the poll will be finished, I'll share with you the main overall results.
    Thanks for your collaboration.

P.S. Sorry if in the questionnaire you'll find some italian words, it's a limit of Google tool I've used to prepare the poll.

Nice looking boat. Very suitable for Adriatic operation.

Hope it catchs on...too many ugly tubs with big diesels on the Croatian coast
