    Dubois 101 meters
here is an article on the new designed Dubois 101 meter. She will be bigger then the latest Mirabella so the biggest sloop rigged superyacht in the world.
She is still in the tank and here is the article: In dutch.
I do not know who is going to build it but I suspect Vitters.
Dubois himself has no news about this in his site:
    http://www.duboisyachts.com/Design/News-and-Events/
Here is the site from Vitters and you'll see he build most of ED Dubois buckets.

    Confidential client

In the article there is nothing about the identity of the client.
Strangest is the site of Dubois naval architecture doesn't mention anything about this new order. May the project is not assigned by the owner yet.

I know of two Vitters megas whose owner wish to upgrade.

At present the limitations to upgrading is technology... sailing systems and handling

The downwind sails on Aglaia store on a roller and then are wound down into the forpeake and stored on a giant hydraulic reel winch.

    A ridiculous contraption

genua furling on giant sailing yacht

They are ridiculous machines those giant genua rollers. principle will be like what I had on my dragon. But a quick gennacker haul is not feasible in a mast of 125 meters.. You need 12 coffegrinders on deck to do a job like that by hand. And even with a electrical/hydraulic winch, the haul will be a big and difficult operation.

The furled sail is lowered and stored on a Gigantic reel winch in the forepeak...Honest...I swear to god...Im not making this up...it true.

Hopefully M2 OF THE SYSTEM is more user friendly

    not a bad solution

I suspect it looks like this small example. How does the M2 of the system looks like?
    Hydraulic hoist?

finally the official desciption of this beast by Dubois

    http://www.duboisyachts.com/design/yachts/in-design/380/
And according to this announment construction is planned mid 2013.
About the builder? It is not assigned yet.

And about the camera's? I guess they have an onboard monitoring system for safety. And about safety: I guess they do not gybe but make a 360 to windward. much safer.... but not in giant waves and regattas. then she has to stay on course. Gybing will be a breathtaking experience.
It wil be something like in the next video but then only ten times bigger.

Those boats are so big that they cant maneuver. They are so big that they only put the sails up for pictures.

Last year I passed many megas during the season and never saw one with sails set.

Last year I was speaking to the captain of a mega built in NZ. They motored from NZ to Europe

That is not true: actually they are very active in superyacht cups like Palma. Check out the following videos: http://www.thesuperyachtcup.com/palma/media/videos/index.php

And what about the following events?

    The Palma Superyacht Cup
    St Barts Bucket Race
    Antigua Superyacht Cup
    Les Voiles St. Tropez

If you that, you have a full agenda all year long just sailing buckets as they call it. Don't be surpised if you end up in the same scene..
Even more exclusive as the jet-set!

But for transportation they are not sailing but motoring. You did that.. I believe you ofcourse.
What about fuel reduction on a trip like that. Sailing is much cheaper but you need a crew for that.
Were you alone? How much members were in your crew?

Sure...Ive done those events many times. Those events are parades and photo opportunities. Common racing rules dont apply...the boats are not allowed to get close to each other.

Once on the parade grounds...Im mean race course....the crew all have a seat in the cockpit, take out their Iphones and start taking pictures of the sails so that they can show them to thier friends.

Last year I replaced the roller boom mainsail on the boat I sail. The sail has a very unique luff tape. The superyacht sailmaker recommended that I upgrade to the new style he uses.

I asked him how many hoists are typical of his improved superyacht luff tape ... its life span. He said he didnt know...his customers rarely hoist the main

    Chartering

Charterers are not the most expierenced crew in the world I believe. And they can hire a crew who does it easily. Guess they there just for show. I think sailing with a bucket is a good show. I'll go for that as a charterer.

I know something about the new luffing systems nowadays on the market.

The furling system for the main; was that in the mast or in the boom?
