    Well, wishful thinking.

Already education teaches us that Drugs are bad, yet society has millions of dope heads.

Dont eat too much or you will bloat up, yet there are millions of bloated ones.

The environment is no different. For decades they have taught that storm runoff and shoreline erosion caused by motorboat wakes was destroying the Chesapeake bay.

Laws and coercive measures like tax willl be the only way to change behavior and chip away at poor community stewardship such as consumer preference for a McMansion on the sea or a 3000hp a day cruiser .

Erosion destroying the Chesapeake bay won't matter if sea level rises a foot or two and floods everything that is currently eroding.

Global warming is caused by the Sun. It would only heat one side at a time. When the Sun puts out less heat the Earth turns cool. When the Sun puts out more heat the Earth turns warm. There is nothing complex about that. Sometimes the simple answer is the best one.

And...they don't teach critical thinking anymore, just the party dogma, an example of which is giving out crossword puzzles as homework that has the definition of conservative as someone who is against personal freedom.

Ah... you must be thinking of the Republican Party of Texas. Their 2012 party platform specifically rejects the teaching of critical thinking skills.

You should know better than to argue that I don't know the topic! :)

    http://www.orthodoxytoday.org/blog/...cause-global-warming-it-doesnt-have-the-mojo/

There is a process to measure a gas’s absorption ability called atomic absorption spectrometry. Suspicious of the entire global warming hysteria, atmospheric physicist James A. Peden put carbon dioxide through just such an analysis. Based on where and how much of the sun’s total radiation output, which consists of light and other wavelengths not visible to human eyes, Peden estimates that carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere takes in no more than 8 percent of the sun’s total radiation.

It’s the same percentage for heat radiated back from Earth. “Man-made CO2 doesn’t appear physically capable of absorbing much more than two-thousandths of the radiated heat passing upward through the atmosphere,” Peden writes. “And, if all the available heat in the atmosphere is indeed being captured by the current CO2 levels before leaving the atmosphere, then adding more CO2 to the atmosphere won’t matter a bit.”

Holy cow! Hard scientific analysis finds carbon dioxide not guilty as charged because this gas simply does not have the molecular mojo to play the role of atmospheric heater. The real culprit is water vapor, which Peden estimates is responsible for 95 percent of all greenhouse heating in the atmosphere.

I'm a professional seaman for more than 43 years. And I don't agree with the eco-nuts.
The thing is, don't bail people out for their stupid mistakes.

If they build where they are vulnerable, then nature will remove the mistake, and the idiot won't try it again, unless govt or insurance gives him his money back. People need to take responsibility for themselves. :)

If you know the topic you shouldn't be quoting pseudo-scientific nonsense, where someone 'estimates' that all the available energy is already being captured and radiated back to the Earth by CO2. Simple critical thinking should tell you any claim that CO2 is already soaking up 100% of the available energy is horse apples; when was the last time you heard of a process that's 100% efficient?

What sort of 'analysis' did this gent put CO2 through? Use of the word analysis instead of 'tests' tells me that most likely he just sat and thought about it, and basically pulled his conclusions out of his fundament.

And no one has ever claimed that CO2 is responsible for the majority of greenhouse warming. What they say is that its contributing more than it used to, because there's more of it.

The questions raised by both Peden (in your first post), and by David Hoffer (in your second post) are both important. If I understand their points correctly, they are arguing that the addition of more CO2 to the atmosphere will not increase its "insulative" effects, because as added CO2 is emitted into the atmosphere, any heat that it traps will make the atmosphere itself warmer , which will radiate more energy out into space, resulting in no added heat to the earth.

The question is very important, and is one which climate scientists have studied for quite some time, the answers to which are incorporated into their current atmospheric models.

Two posts from the Skeptical Science website can be found here:

How do we know more CO2 is causing warming?

Has the greenhouse effect been falsified?

Following each presentation is a discussion between scientists, asking questions of each other in an attempt to challenge/understand the concepts presented. I've copied a couple of these responses below.

Since none of us on this thread are climate experts, to a certain extent it is a matter of "he said... she said..." Or, which expert, or which web blogger, do you think is most likely accurate?

What I like about the Skeptical Science web site is the discussions after the presentation where very intelligent, and often skeptical folks, have a chance to discuss their concerns. One of the strengths of science is that open skepticism is allowed, if not always appreciated.

Look there is one major fundamental flaw in the arguments, both for and against, and that is that that Jennifer Lopez has a great ***.

I'm sorry, did I break my concentration.....

Damn why can't it be Argon concentration that is happening, then I would not need to buy any more gas to weld my boat....
