Crack in fiberglass hull repair

I have a chance to pick up a boat cheap, only problem is they hit a submerged stump fishing last year and cracked the bottom about 10-12". How hard and is this repair "do-able" for the boat? The boat is worth the trailer and 75hp evenrude motor but Id love to salvage the 16' fishing boat. Boat was just completely repainted and redone last year before the accident.

 

depending on how deep the crack is you could gt away with just a gel coat repair worst case scenario you might need to grind the gel around the crack about 4" all the way around and apply a layer off glass to stiffen the structure because you will have a weak spot where the crack is and then sand it down then gel coat over it, this is depending if it has cracked the glassfibre aswell. Welcome to the forum Nitro. Without pictures of the damage, it's pretty much imposable to suggest more then the basics. It could be cosmetic (easy) or structural (less so).

 

Please post pictures from the outside and from the inside of the damaged area.

There is an even better deal to find. Better to be cautious and inspect carefully than to rush into a project boat. There are plenty of project boats available in the market.

 

If you get in the situation again always Post some pictures so we can see the damaged area inside and out side if possible !! Even if the hole was big enought to crawl through its possible to repair if its fibreglass but need to see what ya got better luck next time !! !!
