Check some photos from the Airhull 25 RIB, which is high rated from the Greek magazines for its performance and innovations! http://www.airhull.com

THe principles of golf ball drag reduction does not apply to boat hulls. The invetors claim the dimples trap air and this reduces friction. I significantly doubt any air entrapment is going to offset the added resistance due to the the "roughness" of the hull.

Who is the lucky fellow who has to clean or paint this hull. As to reducing resistance, water behaves a bit differently than air.

I have difficulty translating the website from Greek to English. Are there any boat tests published demonstrating increased speed, acceleration, or decreased horsepower necessary to attain the same speed as a same size, weight, and deadrise hull without the dimples?

I would think a side-by-side comparison of this boat with another identical except for the dimples would be needed to establish what difference there is, without that it is an unproven gimmick.

A comparison of two plates, one smooth and one dimpled would be sufficient for preliminary studies.

    IMP-ish powerboater

After she's up the running surface only has a small triangle of golf-ball surface.

WHEN YOU SEE the differance between Trimtabs and the interceptors theres days its throwing all old theories of what we were bought up with out the window and things are not what we are lead to believe afterall !!!.
i like to see an under water video of the hull plaining just to see how much air is actually entraped in each one of the dimples . With all the strakes and steps and air passage ways in that particular boat it hard to tell whats doing what !!
I had often thought that a fishscales effect could be worth a think about . the shape and size of the scales would have ti be played with . !!! But at the end of the day just build a tunnel hull and ride on a cushion of air and bedone with it !! they are magic in all and any situation and after building and being in them in some hair raising seas with a proffesional race boat driver i came away with a smile and wondering why the hell we even bother with mono hulls at all in some sizes of boats .:)

What about the swaged, corrugated bottoms of aluminium boats ? Plenty of air entrapment in those pressings, don't know if it adds any speed though, and the surface area is greater.

uh....what??? Having dealt extensively with the design, implementation and testing of both for a quarter century plus, I'm completely unaware of any changes in the physics or hydrodynamics involved over that time.

    Perhaps you could elaborate?

things just arnt what they used to be !!

I know what you mean and it sure makes a mockery of the smooth fair hulls theory !!
throws all we been taught and lead to believe for years and years out the window !!

All interesting but !! to think all those hours and hours of hanging on a long board for days were really just wasted time

I wonder if the aircraft industry have looked at the dimple skin idea???? And what about automobiles, they could gain a lot??
