I never, at any time, said IRC had ANYTHING to do with Line Honors. You are reading meaning into my remarks that isn't there. Wild Oats XI raced and was scored ,separately, under both line honors and IRC! http://www.rolexsydneyhobart.com/standings/

    Go Wild Oats!

    Sydney Hobart 2013

From Sailing Anarchy front page: (More to this story here: http://sailinganarchy.com/ )

We’ve been hearing rumors for months now that an Aussie biznessbloke had his eye on a ’100-footer to end WOXI’s reign’ over the Sydney-Hobart race, but with no custom build in the works that we could find, it was all a bit of a mystery. With news trickling in that her insurance issues had almost been cleared up and photos popping up on Facebook of the Speedboat/Rambler 100 on a southbound barge, it’s all starting to make sense. Next stop: Line honors?

    Sydney-Hobart passage record 2013

Congratulations to Team Australia(ORMA Trimaran) for setting a new passage record from Sydney-Hobart! They beat Wild Oats XI record for the same course......

Big deal, its a racing multihull that picked the weather window they wanted.

A reasonably big deal, I'd say. Averaging more than 21 knots S-H is an amazing effort.
For a bit more perspective on it... http://www.sail-world.com/Australia...,-18-footers,-Farr-40's-and-Lord-Howe-/106895

Way back in post #2 of this thread, I suggested that perhaps the S-H had lost some of its gloss.... partly because there just isn't anything terribly interesting about a race where the winner is all but a forgone conclusion. Perhaps Langman's effort will spark some interest amongst other serious go-fast boats and they'll have a crack at beating him: not within the S-H race context of course, but as a stand alone challenge that would free up the race for a more sensible competition....

I agree, its a fabulous effort and no disrespect to them, but in the context of this thread i.e. the SH its a bit of a so what? Its not a race, its a full on drag race against a clock. Its an F1 machine against a V-8 supercar no contest at all.

That's true. One could just as easily argue that Wild Oats is an F1 compared to the rest of the SH V8 supercar fleet....
I think that 90% of the population don't care what sort of boats are raced in the SH....they just want to see a close contest.

All the more reason for others to give this new record a crack!

you cant compare a race record on the day regardless of weather versus a planned run waiting for the right weather...
and woxi's speed back one particular year was way faster than its record down due to the weather.
The orma didnt break any record it just set the first time of a new record
