Yikes. Running aground and electronic chart accuracy. The military should have the good stuff so it makes me wonder , but us recreational sailors are stuck with cheap data like navionics or Cmap. For anyone using navionics or the other cheap stuff.....BEWARE...very many charting errors. So many errors that Im force to navigate with paper next to the plotter.

If their depth sounders don't work maybe they should slow down and sling the lead.

Wow! Not being a seafarer, I forgot one has to consider that, during a sinking, buoyant objects that were dragged down can come up and hit him from below. That had to be a hairy experience.

Not what I was expecting. At the risk of repeating myself from an earlier thread- How do you say "Hey guys- hang on a second" in Iranian (or Chinese or Pakistani). I wonder how the crew got picked to do that job? (I have a suspicious mind)

Now -- visualize this rig sinking in north atlantic seas between 50 and 100ft in hurricane force winds and you'll get some minute idea of what it was like for the crew on the Ocean Ranger. The horror The horror ----
Just curious did anyone view the side stories(vids) on Viking Exploration - Kinda takes the wind out of Columbus and Cabot's sails.

I love the style, I bet she was very nice inside if it was anything like the exterior. Any other information about the vessel ?

Can't remember if I posted this before, it's part of the genome improvement project and my nomination for this year's Darwin award -
