Nobody, anyone, I might just have to order some and give 'em the old hammer test.

 

Pro's:

-no rust
-no rot of surrounding wood (no condensation on cold nail)
-very good holding capacity in line of nail
-sandable / machinable (will not hurt your tools)

Cons
-expensive
-their hand tacker for staples is total crap (their pneumatic Omer tools are good though)
-slightly less shear strength
-need adapted tackers

Overall I am totally surprised these are not used more. It is a marketing problem mostly. I have imported these nails into The Netherlands for a good while, and technically I really like them. However the marketing cost is larger than the profit. The product was just a bit too much out of our "comfort zone".

I am surprised though that glass window companies do not use them more often. These use a lot of nails, and those nails create problems always (rot, rust, and damaging tools when the glass needs to be removed)

I would say: If you have a use for them, go for it.

 

Raptor nails are not availble at your local hardware store.

If you use raptors, be sure to over order supplies. If you need one box purchase two.

Nothing worse than running short during a project and having to waite until a new box arrives DHL.

 

So true. If someone needs them in Europe, I still have a couple of boxes, by the way.

 

Cold molded builders use them a lot.

Who is a Florida retail supplier? They are a product I would buy.

 

I would use them if they were easily available as others have said.... i staple foam core materials together whilst the glue cures, then pull out the metal staples afterwards before laminating... it would be nice to simply leave them in and keep moving...

 

They're out of Texas Hoyt, so UPS to you will be a couple of days brown.

 

I am going to Round Rock in May. I will get some then and save on the shipping charges.

 

Though they have good pullout qualities, they have half the shear strength of similar sized steel, so they're not recommend for structural applications, unless sized appropriately.

 

They should be plenty good for keeping everything together until the glue sets. Many applications where steel is used, the steel fastener is way overkill for the job. Many applications anything less than steel would be inadequate.

 

I have used them and this is exactly why, to hold as the goo cured. The last time I used them, I used an 1 1/4" brad to hold a box section mast together, before rounding. The brads where whacked off with the round over bit, during trim and finishing. They do take stain and paint too.
