I respect amateur engineers for experimenting with projects such as this PVC exhaust experiment, especially when care is taken to not endanger others. I remain unconvinced that it is a better solution than standard exhaust pipes precisely because:
The margin of safety is unknown.

There is also a question of repeatability. When you started the topic you said:
Your friend may or may not get the same pipes as you got 10 years ago "from the hardware shop" and the properties could be different enough to cause a failure. At least you have retrieved the specifications mid-way through the topic giving something to go on.

Hi Mas I have participated in a few forums mostly USA motorcycle forums.

Usanians are now programmed to do what they have to, all common sense and decision has been taken away. We are now well into a generation of people who have no idea of how to make anything not even a meal.

You can't do that,--- you have to buy it,-- It has to be made by a factory.

I knew one guy that wanted a part number for a tail light bulb and ordered one.

I do keep this in mind when talking to Usanians, I am aware that this way of thinking is displayed in there confusion of actually making something for yourself without 10 A4 sheets of paper with explanations and technical data read outs.

Is this the same country of Hot rods and little girls selling Lemonade.

Was this not the origin of the Write brothers at Kitty hawk.

I can just see it today,--You going to do what!!!, do you have permission or a license.

Good bye USA. Never mind,-- the East is ready to sell them A-N-Y thing they want and its there own fault.

This is a very uneducated rant that probably comes from a lack of education or feeling threated by professional engineers. Review the facts and feel lucky that you have stumbled into a workable solution even though you choose materials without knowing their properties. But be careful. Your lack of engineering knowledge and contempt for detailed testing processes could also endanger you.

Now I'm confused. The very first post in this topic you said precisely:

So finally --its a workable solution --there you go that took some time but I remained patient with you and we got there in the end --well done.

I know reading is a difficult subject for you but did you read about the surface drives that I made myself,--yes thats designed and made them. Im particulary proud of the fact that I can exceed manufactures speed with 100HP less.

    God im good.

Cant help any more with you confusion sorry. Read some more bits. The bits you missed first time round.

However, im flattered in your tenacity in trying to understand,--and me just an amateur engineer and all!!!!

I didn't complain about the difficulty of reading your posts. English is probably not your first language and I respect the difficulty. The topic would have been much less unpleasant if you provided accurate specifics in the first post.

Can you name a few professional engineers who will recommend hardware store pvc pipe for an exhaust system?

I doubt it no-- But I used Vinidex heavy duty polymer re enforced PVC???

You would probably think it looks the same. Both are kind of pipy looking.

Drainage, Waste & Vent pipes! http://www.vinidex.http://www.vinid...V_PIPE__FITTINGS_SCJ_Ordering_Information.pdf

    90mm ..................http://www.vinidex.com.au/page/stormwater_pvc_pipe_systems.html

I've used plenty of pvc pipe in boat & tool making, semi circ stiffeners, molding gelcoated(use plenty pva) cove strips, basis for rudder tubes & the like. Great products & cheap.

Frosty has proven his set up under his alarm system & operation & might well represent as a "Practical Engineer". By his own admission that opening post was full of $h1t, just like the pipes are designed for, 90mm pvc from the hardware(light storm pipe) in Aus is a different animal generally than the 100mm(measures larger) DMV pipe, might be the same plastic though.
To be fair I have removed a couple of "baked" plastic "waterlock" style boxes, dunno what brand they were though.
I'll stick to manufactured for purpose exhaust products, gases can kill. In the scheme of building a large powercat a few extra bucks isn't much, you need plenty of coin anyway to buy a molded boat from a production builder.Jeff.

Its ok --ille keep going over it.

It is DWV PVC thast not a standard storm water pipe.

Why this infatuation with specifications. It been on 10 bloody years.

I have not seen or taken off any professional plastic exhausts due to deterioration.

Thats quite a surprise when mine are OK and yet you say that you would only fit professionally made pipes then you say you have had to replaces them.

Try some DWV Vinidex --10 years now, not a problem oh I think I mentioned that.

Just a common detail Frostie, the 90mm size you originaly quoted IS generally storm pipe in that size, at least at the hardware store in Aus, I think I mentioned the apparent success of your system under your control- read due credit. The plastic exhaust boxes I've replaced were "cooked" after water pump failure, they were replaced with custom metal collecter boxes, not a great fan of staino in that application myself but that's what my employer supplied. All the best from Jeff.

To be self critical the only complaint I have is that they look a bit domestic ( ive written this before too) I dont know how or what to replace a custom system.

If I wrap them in Fibre glass they will look like a dogs dinner and with no improvement on performance in any way.

And to be honest I feel I would be doing that to satisfy skeptics and merely hiding them under a blanket.

Wether one believes or not Vetus and other world reputed exhaust part manufacturers use PVC or some plastic .

I am thinking of getting a wrap made from sunbrella or the like to just to stop the ridiculous defiance in accepting the obvious by the flat Earth guys and those that think they never went to the moon. I would be making this wrap myself by the way ---cringe....

At least after 7 pages and 10 years Frostie was able to identify the pipe he used giving some specificity.
