Hello,I have a 50ft ferro cement motorsailer that am fixing up,and trying to find anything about the boat or the builder Frank Cairus..The blue book states that she was built in Duncan in 1989,but from what I have been told the hull was built in Schooner Cove. From there it was transported to Duncan to be finished..I have also been told that Pacific Yachting did a story on the Schooner Cove segment. The builder was Frank Cairus and the original name was THE UNK..
Is there anyone out there that knows anything about THE UNK or Frank Cairus..
    thanks,

Well for starters it would help a lot if you had the name right.

It's CARIUS as I discovered within literally 4 seconds on google.

BTW I quickly looked through my 1989 and 1990 Pacific Yachting (missing 3 issues) and couldn't see anything.

I looked through 1988 anyways-though if it was built in '89(?).
Don't have '87 (have '86 but didn't look) with 4 issues missing-could see nothing about Carius nor Unk in the front indexes.

The Carius "Sail" design catalog includes no 50' motorsailer. It does include a 48' by 13'6" by 6'0" "cruising ketch". There is one sail plan and 3 arrangements shown. I don't possess a copy of the power catalog so cannot say what's in that.

Perhaps she was registered in 89? That seems very late for a cement boat, the boom years in BC were 67-74.......I'll guess the hull was started a long time before she was launched.

I looked on Telus White pages, and there is a person of that same name in N. Vancouver. Most likely his son-very good chance he'd love to know more of what his dad did.
And another of the same last name in Vancouver...only 2 in BC

I know this thread is 4 years old. I also have a 50 foot Frank Carius design ferro cement boat design made in 1971. Post if you need more info.
