Are You Personally Prepared For a Natural Disaster?

My guests are only allowed to eat herbivores, poultry or fish. I don't have any pet fish, chickens, goats or cattle of any sort.

We all know the rabbit was brought to Aus as food and for sport but the obscure introduction is possum into NZ. We know goats were left on isands as food for stranded wreck crew, Norwegian black rats got ashore from ships but the possum wasn't considered food. Even the moari wouldn't eat them, but nowadays although a major pest they are also big bucks. Possum fur blended with marino wool makes really light weight but very warm clothing.

 

Thats not quite correct, Maori won't and didn't eat rat, they hated them because the killed of bigger wildlife the Maori did eat.

There were 3 seperate fleets of long canoe known to have left Hawaii for NZ that arrived, once they landed in NZ they never did any more long voyages except for seasonal hunting mutton birds on Stuart Is and seal on White Is.

There is 2 kinds of rat, one you definately do not eat unless your in a Turkish prison.

One of the big PNG foreign owned palm oil producers was recently looking for a manager with factory experience for a plantation on one of the big islands north of Madang.

The Maori who first travelled to NZ brought rats with them, deliberately.
They might have gone off them later, but that's a separate issue.

In fact, the presence of rats is one way of dating when Maori first arrived.
The earliest arrivals came from the Lapita area, not from Hawaii. Exactly

Ahem---there is 2 kind of rats. One type runs through the sewers and the other runs through the jungle . Very different animals--black and brown for a start offl.

Sewer rats carry all kinds of diseases ( great plagues of London etc) and it is /was illegal in Uk not to report the sighting of a rat. Killing a rat and taking its tail to the local town hall would result in an award of sixpence.

Large wool mills of the North England had ratters-- a man that shot rats for a living.

When mills were demolished and only some were, the king rat would move and the whole lot went with him. The scenes depicted on movies can not capture it,--the road turns black with rats.

 

I stand corrected, at school we were taught the Kiore (polyonesian rat) was introduced later than the first fleet by inter island trading possibly pre Cook discovery period, some even suggested the pre Cook Portuguese navigators to Australia may have made a NZ landfall introducing rats at the same time. This like many things we learnt at school in the 50's has since been proved incorrect.

The world apparently isn't flat after all and we also circle the sun...amazing, whatever next..

It tells of the origin of all food ....animals and crops. Plenty of manmade intervention in nature.
