Sterile, slab sided, mile high freeboard.....its rear end looks like a kitchen appliance. Tie that thing up alongside a low dock and it will attract graffiti. Its only worthwhile feature is that's its an Apple ...... overpriced .

Plenty of happy naval architects and shipbuilders.

Not long ago I was talking to a Project Manager who coordinates many Mega yacht builds in Northern Europe. I asked him why they were all so ugly and he replied that in the new world , all yacht design is "style driven". The clients insist on it. Classic lessons on Form and function no longer apply.

That's the least technical thing you've ever said, Leo. You're clearly a windows user.

    :D :D

For some reason I imagine Leo as more of a Unix (Linux, FreeBSD) type of computer geek. ;)

It would be just as ugly if Bill Gates or Richard Stallman owned it. :)

Sorry, Slavi, but I have used Windows for 99% of my work for the last 20 years.
All I need is a Fortran/C compiler, a text editor, TeX/LaTex and a web browser.
Why would anyone pay extra $$$ for a Mac with a one button mouse to run
    those apps?

Steve J. did not think like normal folks so I do not doubt he might have an Ugly Boat yet he lived in a typical house. not a mansion or even real big. I'd rather have Tad to design it.

This boat seems to be just another in a bit of a style trend which has its roots in the 1920s to 30s. Plumb bows and horizontal and vertical structural elements. The yacht “exuma” was I think a nice example of the style mix. Hull volume above the wl at the stern on some of these boats is more than likely due to form following function. Big modern yachts now require auxiliary craft to be stored in the hull not on it as in the past and they have got increasingly bigger (12m + tenders) and more numerous all of which requires big storage areas. I do like the idea of a structure at the top to hide all the clutter that now graces the tops of modern boats.

    Corley epoxy coated

I looked at all the photos of the "thing" and couldn't find an angle on it or line that I liked. I guess even billions cant buy good taste, imho of course.

that is what you get when nerds have too much money.

As far as the "minimalist" designer, how it that mininalist? looks like a floating filing cabinet. shows lack of creativity IMO. Perhaps it could be used for target practice by the navy.

A new hipster word comes to mind: it is fugly.

IMO, Philippe Starck has done such a great job in designing the "A" yacht, so I'd expect something much much better coming out of his pencil. It looks more like a case for a forum about modern residential buildings than for the BD.net .

I personally like the technological looks of that "clutter". When done properly, it can be an integral and indivisible part of the ship's exterior styling, for example:

Compare it to the boxy residential-style structure atop the yacht in the OP. How about a view on it from this angle:

It gives a sense of weight (besides the high windage) right where the yacht should look light and streamlined. That ship just doesn't belong to the marine ambient, IMO. It would be a very nice floating restaurant though.

Modern yachts are highly detailed aft....for functionality when stern too or at anchor. The APPLE boat is missing all stern too appeal
