I think this is a good thread. Many of us can appreciate having the relief of a bit of extra spending cash. It doesn't matter where you live, it is a comforting feeling.

Yes. What hit me about buying that sandwich was that I've managed to get a step beyond mere survival mode, and was almost taking it for granted.

I've been there before. But I've also been through stretches where even though I was working hard, every dollar I spent had to be carefully weighed -- because it meant I was going to be a dollar short somewhere else.

For Frosty or anyone else who's engaged in grimly digging for some deep meaning in my litle anecdote, there isn't any. I was just casually sharing a very minor epiphany.:)

Sorry to bore you once more but Troy has said I have not contributed to the thread in any way.

Troy below is how I feel rich and feel pain for others --not myself.

That’s because you’ve switched perspective. Going from the person delivering the ‘comment’ to the person receiving the comment.

Some people are just like that. Some people fart profusely some pick their nose etc etc..Either one accepts it or one does not. That is your personal prerogative.

If you’re not asking for advice, then surely he can’t be criticised for not giving any??

You’re missing the point. As also noted here:

It is their “free” right to do as such. And who is forcing anyone to take anyone seriously?

Whether it is socially acceptable, and “wins” them friends as such, is another matter. This is also cultural and relative too, which is mostly ignored or forgotten on forums like this, owing to the ease at which everyone from a multitude of places dotted around the world, can contribute all in the same language. “We” only see the words on a computer screen not the culture or environment the poster is from. Thus, viewing it through our own eyes inevitably raises cultural bias, often unfairly so.

When reviewing insults/abuse whatever it may be, one must be careful not through the baby out with the bath water. Otherwise it degenerates into only becoming acceptable when everyone is joining hands around a camp fire and signing cumbaya m’lud in harmony. And those that don’t wish to are ostracised for not wishing to confirm to the “those masses” singing away to their hearts content.

The abuse/hatred/vitriol and poisonous comments that I often read on here and where threads are removed or stopped owing to such is nothing compared to the abuse I used to hear and see and received myself on a daily basis on the shopfloor in a real world working environment. The “us” and “them”, you’re from the f****g office why should we listen to you etc etc…. Either one accepts it or one does not. But whether I accepted it or not…doesn’t alter the environment in which the work is conducted. I had to find ways around it, to get what was needed to be done in a way that was successful without making matters worse or costing money or time.

I read that post, and will acknowledge it as a positive contribution.

But in it you seem to intimate that if we feel blessed, we're also expected to feel guilty because others aren't so lucky. And to tell the truth, I'm not that much of a self-flagellating puritan: I didn't feel a bit of shame when I tore into that po'boy.

I'm glad to hear you feel for others, and try to help them now and again. I do the same, albeit maybe not as dramatically. But how about saving a bit of that charitable attitude for your fellow forum members, instead of spending so much time sneering and trying to rain on their parades?

Ad hoc hit the nail on the head . We are all from different cultures, I have tried to get that over to you --sometimes we agree and our lives meet and run parallel for a while, short while.

To quote ad Hoc again-- All you see of me is the words on the screen.

Im confused at to why it is seen as anger, how do you write anger?

The fact that I dont see why you should / could feel so good about yourself was not understood by me . I made that clear . That was not understood by you. So what?

So--whats the big problem now -- because I dont agree with you , because I don't feel good about feeding myself and prefer to feed others.

If for example I stated that you're an over the hill old & pompous, frustrated non achiever *** living like as do many suspect Brits in kiddy fiddler land where hookers and beer are both cheap you would complain but that is my brutal honesty./QUOTE

That is not honesty but childish fabrication. Your doing yourself no favours to your companies credibility writing things like this on a world wide forum.

But not to worry im not insulted,--- do do that I would need respect for you.

    Have a very nice day,---honest.

Strange --- to be honest,--- you dont come over as being like that.

From the pointless fabricated rhetoric you have displayed so far.

Some one who could fabricate such outlandish insults from absolutely no where is hardly credible any any respect.

We're all wealthy, if you have the right frame of mind. I consider myself very wealthy, if only by the folks I've called friend, let alone being able to enjoy working at the things I love. John, how wealthy are you to have had such a friend in Nigel. A profound lose last fall to say the least. I think everyone in this thread can find considerable richness, without looking very hard into their own lives or the eyes of their family and friends.

Different when you're on the receiving end than dishing out the pointless rhetoric, isn't it?

I think I'm just pissing in the wind when I even respond to you, but I'll give it another try.

How did you manage to interpret what I said as "feeling good about myself," instead of "feeling good about the circumstances I find myself in"? Did I say I was a wonderful person, who deserves everything good that happens to me?

No. I just basically said I feel blessed/lucky/however you want to put it, for being in a situation where for once I'm not having to scrabble for every dime, and count them twice before turning loose of them.

And I don't see your posts as 'anger'; I see them as unwarranted verbal aggression for the sheer fun of it. Since dumping on others is what makes you happy, there's probably no specific anger involved..... although digging into why it makes you happy could probably be some interesting case work.

No-- does'nt bother me in the slightest, its utter childish nonesence. How many times do you want me to explain that.

Suggesting Thailand is for kiddy fiddling and hookers and beer is cheap show he must have actually been here at some time. After all he is a man of his word , says what he means and means what he says. How else do you find out about kiddy fiddling and cheap beer.

I guess he is now aware of how a serious a crime it is and moved to China. Lots of cheap child labour there.

    I dont know --dont care

    Good riddance.

Troy's message was clear in the OP and in a world where people tend to agree to disagree, some different views can be expected from all for corners of the world, more so on a public forum.
Criticism can be constructive or destructive and depends what one wants to make of it when some is coming your way. That said, criticism must be relative to the issue at hand and not insulting or slanderous in any way....

As for the quote above, my vote goes with Troy. As I mentioned in a previous post, my country are plagued with jobless and street children that hassle you at mostly every place you visit, even when waiting at a traffic light in your car.
Often in the past I helped some of those poor buggers but that left me not feeling good but guilty as hell for the simple reason, I played "God" so to speak. When helping someone, I basically made a decision that this person needs help more than someone else with the same problems and circumstances and that is wrong. But then again, one cannot help everyone.
For this simple reason I rather support charity organizations for the poor and let them decide how to distribute my contributions.

BUT in hindsight, is one really helping a beggar/poor by supporting him/her begging habit rather than ignoring them and indirectly forcing them to go looking for job and income and become independent?
