Are you a student? Is this an assignment or exam? Why not complete it yourself?

Empirical formulae, in ship design or any other discipline, is based on experimentation. It doesn't address theories of why thing do what they do, but is based on data and verifiable facts.

so isnt important to the joe making a boat !!!why fill our heads with things that are just theory when its fact we need !! cold hard down to earth facts !!that if i do this that will happen and if i do that this will happen because its real .

One would use empirical formulas that are based on experience and general practice when details or specifics are unknown or a quick answer is needed. The trick is always to know when the design you are thinking about is within the range where the empirical formulas will work, or not. So it is important to understand the basis for the empirical estimates.

It would be handy if you understood what an empirical formula was folks. It is the direct or indirect absorption of knowledge by observation, which can then be analyzed quantitatively or qualitatively. This is the basis of most research: Assemble empirical facts and form opinion (hypothesis), work through the hypothesis (formulate), establish testable predictions, then testing, then evaluation.

    Ain't science cool . . .

To many big long words i never heard of before ,so the moto of "if you cant convince them then baffle them with science" is alive in your part of the world . personally i dont believe any of it !! it either works or it dosent !!! When some on hits me with something as complicated as that they usually dont have a bloody clue what its all about .
