I would like to give an alternative option.

    Let's say Moteurs Baudouin.

    Marine , Reliable , squared (150x150) , low consumption , IMO2 , low maintenance , 1800 rpm top speed , Heavy duty , 75 to 90 HP/cylinder, turbocharged w/ aftercooler.
They provide also gearboxes - oil bath stern tubes - propellers etc.,

    Anyway is an option ...

Remember Yanmar and John Deere are the same, different colors, but both come out of the same factory.

What engine sizes is this correct for? I know at least some Yanmars come out of BMW's factory, and others out of Yamaha's.

there is no out right best it depends where you are in what country ! the servicing and the back up mechanics and spare parts and accessability of everything makes a huge differance servicing people that reall have there hand on the lever that can sit and listen and say this is wrong and need to be fixed . if he opens a lap top tell him to go for a walk and come back when hes learned mechanics . all the electronic things are a major head ache and just lead to more troubles than whats they worth .if the motor wont run with out electrics i dont want to own it !!.

Do you know if they are Yamaha engines or something rebranded?

Just to set the record straight, Yamaha build the 4.2l (~315hp) diesel for Toyota. We mostly know it as the Toyota Landcruiser engine, but they are mostly built in the Yamaha factory. The Yanmar 4.2l is also a Yanmar tweaked and rebranded Yamaha built engine, but we know it as the 'Toyota engine'. Toyota may have designed it, but I do not believe that they actually build it today.
Yamaha also market the same engine as their own marine diesel, and also have a Yamaha 'duo-prop' stern leg for it. They have done so for many years at various hp ratings. I am not sure, but I heard that their may be some difference in the head design between the Yanmar and Yamaha versions.
Yanmar also market their BY series engines at 2.0l and 3.0l. These are the common rail BMW built engines at 150, 180, 220, and 260hp marinised by Yanmar.
Outside these engines I guess Yanmar either build their own engines or have separate partner deals running.
