    Thanks Corley, Cool to see another maxi tri on the scene, but from that article as I understand it they are only using the beams and rig?

    Wouldn't it be just as easy (cheap) to design and build beams optimised to the new hulls, instead of cutting up a perfectly good ORMA 60 just for the beams? How much could you sell an ORMA 60 for, and would that cover the cost of building new beams and mast?

    It will be cool to see what they come up with, and if it can keep up with the larger maxis eg IDEC or Sodebo, let alone Groupama

    I'm not sure why they bought Sodebo rather than building new beams, mast and appendages maybe the price was too good to say no, it's often the case with these boats. ORMA 60's are fantastic race boats but so single purpose that they are not much good for anything else and a tough sell on the open market. They are really only the province of the extremely cashed up looking for a toy or racing sailors operating a programme with sponsorship. The extended hulls might come out of the same mold as Gitana's with an extension to 80' (not sure just seems like a reasonable approach).

    I saw the video on SA-thanks. Beautifull boat-I'm really impressed. And it's got those things I like on it too!

    interesting float bows too, a bit more buoyancy perhaps than earlier fully reversed bow floats? It's interesting that they have retained sodebo's lifting foils. I dont recall seeing such a developed shape on the foil end before I always thought it was just a small winglet like many other ORMA60's ran.

    Didn't build new hulls? I can't imagine that they would have used foils from a 60 footer on this boat? Is there anyplace that tells the whole story?

    They are certainly new hulls it mentions in the Daily Sail article that they are reusing the "appendages" off Sodebo, I'm not sure if that includes the lifting foils or if they were modified to suit their new role. Information seems scant I'd like to know more about the boat too.

    It's quite rough but I ran a Voile et Voilliers interview with Lionel Lemanchois and Vincent Laurent Prevost through bing translate and the result is here. It contains the usual "interesting" English that computer translates bring up but the salient points are there. I've included the link to the original article in the blog post if anyone who is a good reader of French can translate any additional things that have not come through.

    What I noticed the designers are going to a more eliptical hull shape over rounded in the floats. The hulls are new but the original Sodebo foils and appendages are used they note however that they were advanced for their time and the beams are moved further apart on the new platform to minimise the cantilever of the hull ends. Some changes to the rig etc
