Boat Performance

I have a Triton 19XS with a Mercury 225 Pro XS. On the GPS with one person in the boat and one console removed the boat has reached 74 MPH on the GPS. With gear, two people, both consoles and 1/2 a tank of gas I have reached speeds of 70 MPH. A few weeks ago at a very low speed I ran the boat over a rock shoal. The end result was very minor dings to the prop, scratched skag and the rear 3 feet of the boat being scratched enough to remove the gel coat and the polished appearance. When I say 3 feet, the entire section is not scratched, likely only a small percentage of the total surface. I sanded and repainted the lower unit and filed the SS prop to remove the dings. Only two of the three fins had dings, one fin only had a burr to remove. Very minor damage to the prop.

It seems that I can now only get 66 MPH at top speed.

I am wondering if fixing the prop (removing a small amount of material by filing) or the fact that the rear of the hull is no longer 100% “smooth” will impact the top speed that much? Also, the prop is no longer highly polished from blending with steel wool and neverdull. Any thoughts or recommendations?

See if you can borrow a prop in good shape to test. Possibly it is deformed worse than you realized. I don't know your experience or tools to repair the prop. Please don't take offense at this. It's the easiest thing to test.
