Interesting Tri on Boatpoint

I had a few idle moments to flick through boatpoint today and noticed this trimaran. Looks to me to be the old Jake the Peg? Interesting that they have fitted lifting foils to the boat anyone know whether it helped the boats performance? It was kind of a rear of field performer in the later years sitting somewhere around an Farrier 25 folder in the results.

The last pic isn't an optical effect ? It truly has the floats not parallel to the main hull ?

It's a fish eye lens the floats are parallel with the main hull.

 

I'm guessing that's the way it really is. If it were a fisheye lense many of the straight lines would be curved as well. Amas are straight. Spreaders are straight. Tramp supports between beams are straight. Lines are straight. Only the beams are curved, and even they are straight across the hull.

The inward angle of the floats is an optical effect. When taking shots of buildings you need a special lens to stop this leaning in effect. You can see the effect also in the painted lines of the carpark. They are not parallel either.

Reminds me of a tri I think maybe Troy Munnery was doing something with around 15 years or so ago, had a skiff rig on it & was moored around Gwaly Bay. Jeff.

 

any idea why its so slow? looks kind of heavy from the pics?

 

That thing looks like it should waste any F25! Maybe the nut on the handlebars?

 

This .pdf contains some results from the APC logistics regatta. Looks like it edged out a F22 on a couple of races this I think was pre foils. I can only guess the boats a bit heavy because it looks the goods and hence my question re: the foils. It may be that the conditions didn't suit it or the sails were in poor nick there are a lot of variables afterall and the nut at the tiller as well. The new main looks more high aspect than I recall seeing in older pictures but it always had a big kite.

Non parallel hulls

It is called the "Shift lens". (I had one.)
In the good old days of film cameras, Minolta had the best shift lens in 35 mm.
It was actually auto coupled to the camera.
View cameras had the tilt front and rear to achieve the same effect.

You had to (pull) shift the converging lines back to parallell.
Now you can do it with a computer software.
